Before we went over

I am placing Jay in a tuition centre starting September so last Friday, together with him, we had our breakfast in this food court before we went over. The centre was just a stone throw away so it was convenient for us to have a quick breakfast.

Both of us went for fried kway teow. Long time did not have that so it was a nice dish to enjoy. Loved the wok hei and the taste of the fried kway teow.

Hubby was around too so he ordered his usual toast sandwich. He only had that as he had a brunch appointment later.

After we were done, we walked over to the tuition centre and registered Jay for BM and BC subjects. I liked the centre as they only had small group, class has not more than 5 students when we looked at it last week.

Quiet affair

I know I have been quiet lately in my blog. Not much happening over here.  So, nothing to pen but I try to go blog hopping and leave comments in your blogs whenever I am free.

Anyway another reason for being absent for past weeks was the school exams. Jan and Jay were having their exam and after next week, they will be taking a week school holiday. Jan had 2 full weeks of exam while Jay started his exam last Friday. So I had been busy revising with them.

But no matter how busy we were, we remembered to celebrate Jay's birthday on Thursday. Of course I ordered and had his favourite food delivered right to our door that day.

Pizza from Pizza Hut. Large chicken pepperoni was his request. And so coincidently, my sil in Sibu messaged me in the late afternoon that she also ordered another pizza via Grab for the birthday boy. Beef pepperoni. So 2 pizza pans for us to enjoy.

Besides pizza, I made another food delivery from Sugarbun. Rice with broasted chicken.

A simple celebration for my 13 year old boy. Happy birthday, Jay!!

He loves

My man would send food or place photos via WhatsApp to our family group almost every day.  A kind of communication, to tell us he is doing alright in Sri Aman.

Most of the times, we only send messages and photos in WhatsApp, hardly call as everyone is busy with own stuff. He is with works while I guiding the fort, busy with daily chores and kids' schooling.

One of the food that he loves in Sri Aman was this sotong kangkong. He bought home few times in the past from this place.  It was nice, I liked it but somehow I developed allergy towards sotong not long ago. Not a bad reaction; just few itchy bumps on my arms but it was a surprise as I never had such problem when eating sotong in the past.

Since he knew I have allergic reaction, instead he brought home this fruit rojak from the same stall for me.

Delectable as well. Love the generous amount of crushed peanuts.

Even hubby's friends love the rojak as well as the sotong kangkong that some days, he would tapau back for them to enjoy on Friday evening.

Goreng

Since my MiL made Maggi goreng for the family during her  last stay, the kids especially Jan has been requesting for it quite frequently.

It was simple and easy to cook. Just need to boil the instant noodle, and then cook with vegetable, meat, egg and the Maggi curry seasoning, and we got ourselves a nice Maggi goreng. We no longer go to mamak for it!

I will cook it at least once a week for breakfast and sometimes, Jan and Jay will bring it in their school snack boxes.

I used 2 packs of Maggi curry instant noodle and 2 Lee Fah instant noodle for this recipe. I like to mix the noodles, not all use the Maggi noodle. Fit for 3 - 4 persons.

Ingredients:

4 instant noodles

1 Maggi curry seasoning (seasoning pack in the Maggi curry instant noodle)

4 garlic cloves, minced

1 shallot, sliced

Bok choi, sliced (or any leafy vegetable)

Chicken strips, seasoned with salt, pepper and light soy sauce

2 eggs, beaten

Water for boiling

Cooking oil

Methods:

1. In a pot, boil some water. Once boiled, add a tsp if salt and then 4 packs of instant noodles. Cook and drain. Add some cooking oil to the drained noodle and stir well, leave aside

2. In a wok or pan, heat up about 3-4 tbsp of cooking oil. Toss in garlic and shallot and saute till fragrant.

3. Add in the chicken strips and cook till change colour. Then add vegetable and stir well.

4. Toss in the noodle and mix well before add in the Maggi curry seasoning and mix well. If you like it spicier, add 1 more pack.

5. Lastly, add in the egg and mix all the noodles well. Serve immediately!

Beef!

It wasn't 6pm when hubby and I reached Saradise yesterday evening. First time at this area so a new place for us to explore and enjoy.

Many eateries in Saradise so everyone is spoiled with choices. From classy, chic and fine dining restaurant to cafe and food court, you could find few cuisines to satisfy your palate and dining experience.

Our choice of first time being here was this place. Ken's Kitchen!

Hubby's idea of coming here and it was also his idea of an early birthday dinner treat for me. He would be flying to KL this Wednesday and only back on late Sunday evening. And my birthday falls next Wednesday and he wouldn't be around to celebrate together. So, an early birthday treat for me yesterday.

No kids around; just me and him. So a birthday dinner cum dating and couple time for both of us. The kids were fine with us going out and before we left, we readied their dinner so they can enjoyed at home.

Look how nice was the setting of this eatery. Most tables were reserved and lucky star was in our side, we got a table for both of us!! Only one occupied table when we reached there. A young couple with their 2 young children.

After ordered our food, we had a few sip of Monrande Cabernet Souvignon red wine. They had many varieties of wine to choose from and even comes in small bottle. We opened up a small bottle (RM32), which was just nice for the 2 of us. Hubby ordered a draught beer (RM18) for himself as well. I was fine with the red wine and since they served lemon infused water on the table, I decided not to order any other drink.

Our food finally arrived after about 30 minutes of waiting. As it was a special occasion, we were having beef as the main course.

Hubby went for ribeye steak of Australian premium beef cut 280g, priced at RM105. It was medium rare, so juicy and well seasoned with salt and pepper on top of buttered mash potato. We both loved this very much.

As for me, I settled for this beef bourguignon (RM52). Braised beef cheek for 12 hours and served with mashed potato, sauteed wild mushroom, seared baby carrots, pickled shallot and beef bacon with red wine broth.

A side dish of sauteed vegetable (RM7) to go with our high calories meat.

After we were done with our dinner, we went for a short walk to digest our food. A lovely evening for a walk and a beautiful ending to our lovely dinner.

Before he was off

It was a Monday morning. Time for my man to drive to Sri Aman. Plus and minus, it is slightly under 3 hours for him to reach Sri Aman.

Usually he only start driving in mid morning or noon, to avoid traffic. We will stop for breakfast after drop Jamie to school around 730am.

So, that Monday before he was off to his workplace, we went to this coffee shop for breakfast. A real quickie as our food arrived in quick time. That was one reason why we like to come here, when we were in a rush.

We ordered our food from Dapur Foochow. As I wasn't fond of kampua, I decided to have fried mihun that morning.

Hubby , meanwhile had his soy sauce kampua. He rarely ordered this, usually go for fried noodle.  But he enjoyed this kampua very much.

By 8am, we finished our food and went home.

2 bentos

One of the mornings when I didn't have time to prepare lunch. So, food delivery it shall be!!

Somehow the Bento set from SCR that we had before was on my mind that morning. So, after browsing through the app, I settled for these 2 bentos.

Bento without rice; I can cook rice at home. RM13.20 for each bento. Fit for 4 of us.

First bento was stir fried cabbage, braised egg and sweet and sour chicken. The sweet and sour chicken was nice. I enjoyed this dish the most!!

Second bento was combination of roasted chicken, spring rolls and stir fried cabbage.

What's else

This was our third visit to this new food court on one Sunday. Each time, I tried different stalls, so I know what is good, what is not.

Big breakfast RM11

My man wanted Big Breakfast so he suggested to go to this food court since he had a nice experience with the Western breakfast stall in previous visit. This breakfast set was sure big and lasted him till noon.

Kolo mee RM5

My girl ordered kolo mee for herself. Somehow she wanted to have kolo mee that morning, not the Western breakfast.

Tomato crispy mee RM7

I spotted Siniawan Old Street Fried stall so went to check out it's menu. Many option but I chose tomato crispy mee. Not a good choice as I didn't finish the noodle. Not enough gravy to soak and soften the crispy noodle, so not enjoyable to me.

Oyster omelette RM15

Kolo mee takaway for the boys who were still sleeping when we left. And I ordered this oyster omelette from the Char Kueh stall. Not bad although I much prefer the crispy Kuching pancake but this omelette was acceptable for me.

New place

Lao Jie Fang has been in business for quite sometime, around last year so it wasn't a new place to some in Kuching. However, it took me and hubby last month to patronise it.

This corner lot in Padungan (opposite SJK CH No 3) used to be a cafe/restaurant, I had been there once but many years ago.  Didn't know when it closed down or when this new place took over the space.

As it was in city centre, it was understandable that we would not venture. But it was a Saturday, so we had all the times in the world. Hubby also just recovered from Covid-19, and after self isolation and home quarantine, he was eager to go out and dine out. Since it has been that long we did not drive all the way to city centre, we decided to do so and discovered new eatery last month.

We discovered that this Sarawak laksa stall in Ang Cheng Ho has moved here since last December. The lady operator recognised my man as he used to eat her Sarawak laksa in the old place.

So, 2 small bowls of Sarawak laksa and a bowl of braised chicken feet for both of us. Around RM6 for small portion.

The taste was still as good as I remembered it, especially the braised chicken feet in Sarawak laksa broth.

We also had 4 pieces of this tasty chai kueh. RM1.20 each. 2 fillings; one was chives and another was chestnuts and dried shrimps. We opted for the latter filling.

And one good news for the patrons. Their teh o peng only RM1 per glass!!! My man had 2 glasses that morning.

While we were there, we bumped into our friend who happened to be the owner of the shop. We had a lovely chat with her. She also recommended what was good there, like the China beef noodle, vegetarian dish, and  lui cha. Next round for that. There sure is a lot of choice in Lao Jie Fang for everyone. Business hour is from 6am to 2pm, daily.
