Time flies to 2026

My eldest Jan finished her STPM last year and scored  aggregate PNGK (CGPA) 4.0 in her exam. What a huge accomplishment for her after about 2 years of hard work in Form 6.

On June 2026, when result was announced, she and top achievers from Sarawak went to attend STPM result announcement ceremony in Kuching.

Photo taking after ceremony in SMK Tun Abang Haji Openg Kuching

Then the following week, the school organised its own appreciation ceremony in their hall. 12 top achievers with 4.0 this year from the school, bringing it on the Top 4 list among all the schools in Sarawak. Well done to SMK Green Road Kuching. First 3 schools are from Sibu.

With this, she has concluded her diploma level and now plans to pursue degree in Bioscience. She has been offered by Swinburne University but still waiting for more universities offer via UPU portal. So now she is enjoying her life, helping at the shop and not to think too much about university yet. Enrolment is expected in September this year.

With free education offered by Sarawak government this year, we are encouraging her to study in local university here. But final decision is up to her.

His day

It was my eldest son's birthday last Sunday. So we asked him what he wanted for dinner since it was his special day so it was his call and he requested for Japanese.

Our first choice was Little Sushi at Pines Square. The last time we came here was few months ago when hubby and I brought Jan for her SPM celebratory meal.

Back to last Sunday, we arrived at the restaurant slightly after 5pm. Not that crowded, so we were able to find a table for 6 of us.

Everyone ordered main dish each, so it took a while for everyone to be served.

Soft shell crab temaki

Jan ordered soft shell crab temaki as her starter. She liked it very much. The little one requested for ebikko, he shared these with his brother.

The birthday boy had cha soba, which coincidentally that was what he had last year!! That boy, he stayed loyal to one dish!! Lol.

Jamie chosen this ebi fry jyu himself. As he grown older, he is more adventurous now in trying new food. Of course we still controlling his food intake due to his food allergy and eczema so we try to avoid or reduce the amount of allergen in his intake. As for his eczema, it is on and off affair. Maybe due to the weather, his eczema has not been improving much for these past 2 to 3 months.

Ebi fry jyu

Yours truly opted for this bento. Always fond of salmon, so I went for the salmon teriyaki bento.

Salmon teriyaki bento

Mil and Jan had unagu jyu each while my man had daba teriyaki jyu.

And that was our Sunday dinner.

Mewah

Today is my shop off day, so together with my man and mil, we went to Desa Wira for its wet market. After done with our shopping, we stopped by this Mewah Delight coffee shop for breakfast.

It was right opposite to the wet market, the shop is next to this coffee shop.

Our first time having breakfast here. The operator operated most of the stalls and drink.  Mil and I went for kolo mee special (RM8).

Hubby went for the mixed pork soup and noodle set for RM10.

Decent taste and cheaper price, nothing to shout about.

Heng Heng

We had an early Father's Day dinner with my family last Saturday. Venue was this Heng Heng Restaurant. The restaurant was directly across the road from Hong Ang restaurant, Kampung Kenyalang Park.

My first visit to this restaurant, recommended by my brother as my parents liked coming here for its food. We, the siblings shared the cost as it was Father's Day. Each chipped in RM197 for 7 dishes for 2 tables.

I didn't take many photos as everyone was pretty hungry by the time the first dish arrived. We started off with "Kay see mee" (stir fried noodle with egg gravy). It was flavourful and tasty.

Next we had the Yang Zhou fried rice which was equally good.

Ang sio tofu (braised soft beancurd) was pretty appetizing but got to watch out for the heat. The soft beancurd could burn your tongue!!

Yam basket was everyone's favourite. I can't remember the last time I had this mixed vegetable served in yam basket dish. The quail egg was an extra bonus to this enticing dish.

Next was this super tasty sweet sauce pork chop. This dish sure blew me away with the tender pork ribs coated with sweet sticky sauce.

Under recommendation from my mum, this lam kip chicken (stir fry chicken pieces with galangal strips). Yes, it was nice and addictive.  I took a lot of this dish.

Another dish that received thumb ups was this crispy oyster pancake. Big, juicy oysters with crispy pancake sure had you keep coming for more!!

This cake from Gingerbread House was sponsored by my sis. What a delightful dessert after all the yummy dishes.

Off day

It was the shop's off day on Tuesday so everyone had a well-deserved rest. After all the Gawai weekend work at shop, everyone needed a good sleep and rejuvenation. Two of my Dayak staff went back to their respective hometown for the celebration so the kids came full force to help out at the shop. Tuesday was also a public holiday in Sarawak so the boys didn't need to go to school that day.

After everyone woke up and got ready, we drove out for breakfast. No jam on the road and the drive was smooth. We went to one of our favourite noodle eateries, Kim Joo for its vinegar noodle and mixed pork soup. How much we missed that!!

Luck was on our side as we found a parking spot right behind the post office. And we also found a vacant table right in front of the shop when we reached there.  Yes!!! It was a very good morning.

Soon our breakfast came; we didn't need to wait so long. Our noodle with mixed pork soup. Never fail to impress and satisfy our craving.

The soup was comforting and eaten with the slightly sourish vinegar noodle, it was a nice and filling breakfast. Everyone finished their noodle till the bowls were clean, literally speaking. Lol. We were ravenous and at the same time, missed the taste of the food.

After filling up our tummies, we drove around the city, and all the way to Sentosa. Not all the time we were able to drive and enjoy each other company. Hubby suggested to go to Aeon Mall for a window shopping. We reached the parking space before its opening at 10.00am but it was only few minutes wait before it opened for customers.

We did some shopping at computer shop and then let the kids de-stress and have some fun at the games arcade.

The boys had a blast there. They spent almost an hour there while hubby, Jan and I went to the nearby food court, had a chill and waited for them.

After they were satisfied, we headed back to our car and headed home.  As for our lunch?? I bought fried rice from Kim Joo in the morning, while the kids had their favourite broasted chicken with savoury rice from Sugarbun.

My verdict on the fried rice?? It was good and full of ingredients.

Result day

After months of waiting, today is the day. SPM result day!!! And what a relief to know that my eldest passed her 2023 SPM exam with good grades. 6 A+, 3 A and 1 B. Congratulations to her. We are so proud of her.

After closed our coffee shop this afternoon, hubby and I brought Jan to her school to collect her certificates and other documents. Then the three of us went to Little Sushi in Pines Square for a little celebration meal.

It was late afternoon so the place wasn't that full. We placed order on the order chit and passed to the waitress. In the past, we used to order through the online app but now they implemented ordering through chit. Maybe not all customers are familiar with online ordering or much prefer physical menu and writing down their order.

Sakura blossom, cold green tea and iced Ribena

This was the first time I tried its cocktail. I had one that was called Sakura Blossom. RM9.80 per glass, which was not too sweet, it was alright to quench my thirst.

It was mostly my girl's call to order whatever she wanted since this meal was for her. She started off with fried hotate (RM10.90). Then this taco set which was rather enticing and addictive with the crispy fried seaweed wrap. Our taco set was RM65 with 5 different toppings.

My man wanted sashimi so he ordered few different sashimi platters to share among us. The first one was maguro sashimi (RM17.60), salmon sashimi (RM18.60) and Ika Sashimi (RM17.60).
The sashimi platter

These 2 rolls were unagi temaki and soft shell crab temaki, which Jan and my man requested. RM10.60 each.

Of course we did not missed out on ordering some sushi for ourselves. We had Fuku set for RM41.60.

This Sakana roll RM16.60 was rather good and fresh. Something we never ordered and tasted in the past. Using fish slices as the roll, it was tasty. I hardly used any dipping when having this roll. I like eating the raw fish or sashimi as it is without dipping.

Lastly on our order list was this deep fried soft shell crabs (RM14.60). My favourite, I had to admit. Do you like soft shell crabs?

Our nice and tasty late afternoon meal before we headed home.

Lunch with her

Early this morning, I brought my girl to UTC to do her new IC. Past her 18th birthday, so it is time to get a new IC.

I set 840am appointment through the JPN online website last month. Although it was raining and traffic was rather heavy this morning, we managed to reach there before 830am. We were third in the queue. Thank God it only took us around 15 minutes for the whole process and we got her new IC on the spot.

Then we went to do our errands and after all the driving, we planned on going to this newly opened pizza chain for lunch.

But alas. No parking and we could see it was a queue inside the shop. So that didn't went according to plan.

We ended up at Yummy Xpress MJC for our lunch.

I ordered SCR fried rice with fried egg as I used to enjoyed it. This time, it didn't fail me but after finishing the whole dish, I was bloated! Quite a portion for a small eater.

Jan picked the fish and chicken combo. You know she always like such fried stuff. The fish fillet has that fishy smell to it, so it wasn't that nice. We much prefer the Fish N Chips from Small Coconut in 38 Food Street

A visit

My sil and her two young children are paying us a visit, staying in our house for over a week. They flew in on Wednesday morning.

In a taxi, they directly went to our coffee shop from the airport for breakfast. After a while, I took the children back to meet up with their cousins. Children, they do get along and blend in pretty fast.

On the first evening, I drove them around the old part of Kuching, namely Electra House as I needed to collect my sio bee (siu mai) from Open Air Market. Then we went back to our area and settled our dinner at this food court. It has become our favourite dinner place as they have many choices for everyone.

We seated right in front of this big soup jar. A food stall selling nutritious Chinese soup such as peanut soup, cordyceps pork rib soup etc. hubby tasted its peanut pork ribs soup before. He seemed to enjoy it.

No, no one ordered soup that evening. I ain't going to go into much on what we had as it was more or less the same like what we had during our last visit.

A friend recommended that we try the kompia from the kampua stall. So we ordered some to try this round.
It was good, well fried and crispy. Not too salty, the taste was nice.

Jay ordered beef pepperoni (RM18) from Small Coconut stall.

He finished most of it so I guess it was nice. I didn't get to taste it, so I can't say much about it.

We meant to go to Aeon Mall for shopping but as Jan was having her last SPM exam paper on Thursday, we decided to go another day for that.

Eve night

We had Christmas dinner on the eve night with my side of family in Boulevard Restaurant. My dad booked a table for 15 of us. We were the first to arrive, while few tables were already occupied. The whole restaurant was fully booked that evening.

Soon my parents and brother, sis and their families came and we had the waiter to serve our pre-booked menu.

We started off with this tasty fried rice. There was some crunch in the fried rice so it was really tasty and appetizing. Even my choosy eater hubby commented it was good.

Thereafter its crispy mee with chicken was served. The waiter served them into smaller bowl so each of us had a serving.

The fried seafood beancurd was a hit among the kids as it was good with the mayonnaise dipping.

The yam basket was something I enjoyed that night. It has been a while since I last have this mixed vegetables served in a yam basket.

The salted egg yolk fried bittergourd was pretty good as well. Bitter yet salty at the same time.

Plum sauce pork rib was also a hit among us. Tender and flavourful pork ribs; everyone sang praises of this dish.

Next was the oatmeal prawns. No fault on this dish but I thought it was rather dry. The prawns were fresh so not much complaint on this.

We also had steamed sea bass which I didn't take photo of. Lastly was some green to balance our intake. Stir fried Sabah lettuce, which we all like to have.

While we were dining, a surprise visit by a carolling group to bring some Christmas vibes to the restaurant and diners. They sang few Christmas songs and a Santa Claus also appear to give some candies to young children. What a wonderful Christmas feast and eve we had.

And today being the last day of the year, here wishing all my readers, bloggers and friends, A Happy and Blessed New Year!! See you guys in 2024!!!
