Check in: Kuching Fest 2026

Yes, we have visited Kuching Festival 2026 before it ends next week. I don't remember the last time we went to this annual food fair. Somehow the crowds, parking and price weren't that attractive for us to make the trip.

Anyway, someone was craving for certain food so that was a good reason to go to the food fair in MBKS this year.

We reached the venue around 530pm last Saturday. Luck was on our side as we found a nice parking at the roadside next to St Peter's Church. 

We thought we were early but no. We can't escape the Saturday crowds. The place was already full of visitors. 

We only managed to walk one part of the festival, hardly able to squeeze with the crowds.

Yes, super warm Saturday evening. Forgot to bring out umbrellas. But that didn't hinder more visitors to the fest. 

Here were few stalls that I took before I got both hands full. Lol. 

Tong Sui stall. My first purchase from Kuching Fest was here. 2 tub of peach gum snow swallow. 

The kids' favourite!! Fried potatoes. 

I had one of this deep fried eggplant from the same stall. Choice of 2 sauces, I went for salad and cheese sauce for me. I finished up my eggplants on the spot. 

This was what we came for. I mean, someone's craving. Hubby waited more than 30 minutes for his stinky tofu!

Dessert were here and there, but we prefer this lovely tiramisu and ice cream from this outlet. 

It took us about 2 hours there. We brought our food home to enjoy. By the time we walked out, it was almost 730pm. Beautifully lit up MBKS building overlooking one part of the Kuching Fest. 

Here it goes

Back in 2016, hubby was stationed in Sri Aman for a year.  Now 5 years later, he is going back to Sri Aman for a few years posting there.

Maybe a blessing in disguise for him. Less stress, lower target, away from office politics in Kuching. Although he may need to drive around 2 hours from Kuching to Sri Aman, but he did it 5 years ago, so it isn't a much problem.  Of course he will be back and forth for weekend etc, so we still get to see him during the weekends.

On Wednesday, my Jay went for his Covid-19 vaccination.  We thought Jan would be vaccinated first but in the end, it was Jay that went first. Jan supposed to have hers early last month but last minute, it was postponed, maybe to accommodate the 16 and 17 years old first. The new date for her vaccination is next Friday.

So on Wednesday morning, I brought Jay to SJK CH no 6, the designated vaccination centre for few Chung Hua schools in Padawan, which was about 10 minutes drive from our house. His time slot was 11am, but we arrived early around 1030am to find parking and venue. In less than 20 minutes, he was done with Pfizer vaccine and we were allowed to go home.  Other than sore arm, Jay did not have any side effect and was doing alright.

On that same morning, my hubby also drove to Sri Aman to do some handover work. Then he drove over to Sibu in the afternoon as his paternal grandmother passed away the night before. As the eldest grandson, he wanted to pay his last respect and accompanied his grandmother on her final journey. RIP, ah mah. We will miss and remember you forever.

Graduation

Jamie had his graduation and year end concert yesterday afternoon at the Islamic Information Centre. Yes, he has finished his kindergarden education. My youngest child has grown up and no longer a toddler.

First time

Since we don't have a Hard Rock Cafe in Kuching, I did not hesitate to jump to the chance to visit one in my recent vacation.

The Hard Rock Cafe KK in Oceanus Waterfront Mall was not an unfamiliar place for my man as he had made few trips to KK and dine and drink here.

We visited the Rock Shop but no, we did not bought anything. 

I was more on the food and a little chill out in the cafe.  Would you believe it that this was my very first time dining in a Hard Rock cafe? Yes, you better believe it!!

I had been to few like in Malaysia, Thailand and Europe but never dine in them. 

We did not dare to order much as the portion is big. American size, as my man described them. Lol. 

We shared these 2 platters, fish n chips and the original legendary beef burger. 

We ordered medium cook for the beef patties and it was lovely and just nicely done. So juicy and well seasoned, I enjoyed the burger very much. Everyone shared the food around with a high glass of lemonade. Of course my man had a glass of beer to go with the dinner. 

After that, hubby suggested to burn some calories with a stroll at the waterfront. So we walked over and took some photos of the cafes and pubs there. 

There was even a 24 hours Korea pub there, everything in Korean. Amazing. I felt like I was oversea back then.

The weather was nice as it was after a heavy rain. We were lucky to enjoy the nice cooling breeze and beautiful ocean view. 

I wish I could stayed longer in KK but alas, why the time passed very fast when we were having a good time!! 

I could just stay and stare out at the sea and watch the sunset. Sigh! 

Big Bad Wolf is back (and it is bigger)

Yes! All you Kuching bookworms and book lovers, the much anticipated book sale of the year is back and it is bigger than last year!!

The book sale is currently held in Mydin Hypermart Petra Jaya from 25 April to 5 May, from 10 am to 12 midnight.

In case you are wondering where is Mydin Hypermart Petra Jaya, you could use Google Maps for direction. We were not familiar with that area so thanks to Google, we were able to find this mall with ease. It took us around 30 minutes from our place to reach this new Mydin Mall. 

Excited?? Yes, I was. I was so looked forward to this book sale as I didn't get much last year. 

Last Saturday, we woke up early, had our breakfast and headed straight to Mydin Petra Jaya. Since it was our first visit to this new mall, we were a bit lost looking for the venue. Thankfully the BBW has stationed few ushers in the strategic spots in the mall to inform their customers on the location and direction.

The BBW venue was in lower ground, the basement car park. If not for the big BBW lighted sign, we wouldn't be able to find the place. The venue was packed (as expected) when we arrived around 11am, and we wasted no time but to browse and hunt for books that were interesting and captivating.

Big Bad Wolf Books Kuching sale offers 75-95% discounts on selected books. Advised to be there earlier or off peak hour to avoid massive crowds and long queues.

Soon our cart was filled up with books!! One full cart. We couldn't get going anymore as more crowds were coming in.  So, how long did we spent in BBW Kuching?? More than 2 hours.

And we spent RM676.00 on 37 books! Wow. Our loots, happily sitting in our car.

Walk, see, buy

It was a beautiful Sunday last week. We went to the other side of the city after breakfast to get some plants.

Crossing the calm Sarawak river to Kubah Ria centre. We only come here to buy some plants.

So last Sunday, we had a short walk at the market where all the plant stalls are located. 

I couldn't resist taking photos of some of the beautiful blooms.

Many lovely flowers around; so tempting to bring them home but alas, we came for some herbs.

And that was what we bought home. RM5 for 2 pots so we bought 4 (3 mints and 1 curry leaves).

After church and lunch, we went to Hills Shopping Mall for the yearly year end book fair.

Not many people browsing around, that was a surprise but never mind. We could browse through the collection with ease.

But we didn't buy many books this round. Somehow, I felt the collection wasn't that extensive compared to previous years but I did get few books for myself and few for the kids.
