Lui Cha

If you are looking for some detox or healthier remedy, this dish will be a good option. A change from eating noodle or meat dish, we now have Hakka Lui Cha for you.

Lui cha or Thunder rice literally translated is a tea based traditional Hakka dish originated from China.

Lui cha has a beautiful history but lengthy preparation as its ingredients need to be chopped or grinded properly. Traditionally prepared in mortar and pestle, now most people use blender to prepare the dish.  Groundnuts, tea leaves, vegetables, beancurd and other herbs are parts of this healthy and vibrant rice dish.

You could just pour the bitter soup into the bowl and mix everything up. Or you could just eat it dry, without the soup as most people are not used to the butter tea leaves soup. I like to miss a bit of the soup into the rice and mix all the ingredients. Taste? A bit of sweet and bitter. Bring a Hakka myself, I have been exposed to Lui Cha at a young age. Of course based on own preference, you could find-tune the taste of the soup; make it more enjoyable and sweeter.

If you are curious to know how it tastes like, do from by to my coffee shop. Open now.

Open at night

Recently our coffee shop opened at night as we have fried wok stall operating.

Er Gu literally means second aunt in Chinese. A lady in her 60s cooked all the dishes with the help of her son. Started from 5pm till around 11 pm, they enjoyed a steady business as just started last week.

Portion was pretty one of the fried menu including fried rice.

Their more famous order included tomato crispy noodle and Cantonese kway teow.

Overall their wok hei was good. Fried to perfection and aromatic.
My favourite is their fried kway teow. Yummy with generous ingredients in it. They even had pork belly as part of their ingredients.

With drizzle of oyster sauce on top of the chicken, it gives the extra flavour to it.

Porridge

A new stall in Jia Hao Cafe that opened sometime this month.

Porridge stall!! The new stall offers pork, prawns to fish porridge. Definitely a good, nice meal to have to warm up the tummies in the morning.

The other day, I tasted its fish and prawns porridge, on the house. It was super good, super comforting. More of congee texture, with marinated fish slices and fresh prawns.

Pork porridge

The other day, we tried out the pork porridge. RM7 per bowl. Tasty and savoury porridge, definitely a great meal to start off the day.

And besides porridge, this stall also selling prawn mihun. Another variation is using noodle instead of mihun. This tasty, mild broth of seafood goes well with the handmade noodle, which I enjoyed. RM9 per bowl.

Touch your heart

Dim sum, literally means "touch your heart" is a Cantonese dish that usually eaten for breakfast and brunch.

Dim sum served with tea eventually evolved into the modern "yam cha".  This delectable morsel is served in bamboo steamers, making it a distinctive Cantonese culture.

Since last month, Jia Hao Cafe started provide more choice for patrons by serving dim sum. For time being, we have 10 types of dim sum for customers to enjoy.

When think of dim sum, what is the first thing comes to mind?? Char siew bao?? Har Kau (prawn dumplings)? We have that cover for you.

The China-originated soup dumplings aka xiao long bao is also on the menu, so for those who love the piping hot pork soup dumpling, you can give this a taste.

Slowly gaining popularity is this bacon roll, which was loved by younger customers. Savoury bite with that bacony flavour.

New wok fried

The previous wok fried stall operated for 5 months before they called it a day last November. And now, we have new guy taking over the Wok Fried stall.

Started end of last month, JQi Fusion Food has extensive selection of noodles, rice to dishes for  breakfast goers and lunch goers.

The mee basah (wet noodle) got my mil's approval, almost similar to what she had in Sibu.

For kuchingites who love its tomato noodle, their tomato crispy noodle was good and flavourful.

Fried yellow noodle was alright when my girl tasted it the other day. She was more of a mihun person but their mihun wasn't ready that morning so she went for yellow noodle instead.

Like my girl, I wasn't too fond of yellow noodle either, so I decided to go for Cantonese fried kway teow. Can tasted the wok hei of the fried kway teow. I quite like the taste.

My man went up a knot, requested for extra egg gravy (RM8.50).  It was nice and moreish too with that extra egg gravy.

All noodles priced at RM7 per plate (normal).
