Can't get enough

We simply can't get enough of the icy dessert from this cafe that we got to come back for it the next day!!! It was that good and refreshing!

Even the lady recognised us!! And this time, she jokingly asked "no durian, right?". Lol.

Somehow, 1st bite is always the best. Not the same when you went back for 2nd time and so forth. This time, maybe it was lacked of palm sugar in the dessert so probably not as good as the previous one. But it was still taste nice and not too sweet for me.

For lunch, I have to try its assam (tamarind) fish fillet rice as I heard good review on it.

So here was my sizzling hot claypot of assam fish fillets. It was bursting with flavour and I could detect the hints of lemongrass and tamarind.

I enjoyed my assam fish fillets with Bario rice. Finished every bit of it.

It's been a while

It's been a while since we have our meal in one of this shop. Now the business is booming and has expanded to few outlets around Kuching.

I did not have bak kut teh for quite sometimes now. Not a big fan of strong bak kut teh herbs like those Klang's famous bkt, I would go for milder herb soup like those from Johor. As for this Go Fun Kee, I find their soup is mild and just nice for me.

I used to like its dry bak kut teh which was spicy. I remember they only have 2 choices of bak kut teh back then. Dry and soup. But now they have more varieties for customers to choose from.

We visited the outlet in MJC as it is nearer to our house. First time came here. Place quite clean and not too warm for our comfort.

Here is their chilli dipping. Consists of light soy, minced garlic, sliced chilli and oil.

We ordered 3 clay pots and the first one that came was this ang chow chicken (red glutinous rice chicken). Very red, I know. Quite flavourful and I enjoyed it. However not much meat as the chicken were quite small and furthermore the pieces were cut into smaller pieces.

I specially ordered this black vinegar pork trotter. Go gooey over the trotter. I love this aromatic ginger and sweet and sour of the vinegar that absorbed into the trotter and a hard-boiled egg. I almost finished up the whole pot by myself!

Next was our bak kut teh. Hubby ordered medium pot for bak kut teh while the other 2 were small pots.

I did not take the photo of the bak kut teh in the clay pot as by then I were super hungry. Served my tummy first. *wink*

Hubby ordered spare ribs, soft ribs and pork belly for the bkt. The soup as always, was not that thick which I like. I would go dizzy or having headache if I had one strong bkt. We couldn't finish the bkt so we have to pack it home for dinner.

I guess it would be quite a while before we started to miss bkt and come here again. Not really that fun to eat bkt when the weather was warm.

Miscellaneous Picture #43: Old buildings

Short post today. Just showing some photos of old buildings around Kuching.

Intrigued and blend with the modern design, most those old buildings have turned into restaurants or other business centres.

Happiness is

Happiness is seeing my children grow up happily, healthily and with love and to love others.

The young one knows how to feed himself. Seeing him enjoying his food is the happiest moment for me.

And best of all? Making happy memories with my loved ones. *wink*

Needless to say, I am happy that I could spend more quality times with my children as they simply growing up so fast in front of my eyes.

Two balls

I am not a big eater but love to taste long spread of food on the table. Usually I ordered few dishes and eat a bit of this and that. Anyway today post is not on varieties but on a new cafe that we had recently discovered in Kuching.

Now Kuchingites can enjoy the famous Melacca's chicken rice balls in this eatery named Onn Cake House Melaka Favourite. Located near to Hainan Street Restaurant in RH Plaza, Jln Lapangan Terbang (at the back side where Four Points Hotel is), this place serves Melacca's local cuisine namely Nyonya dishes and it has the famous Melaka chicken rice balls, Melaka cendol, Nyonya chang and ayam ponteh.

Can see Four Points Hotel from here

I tasted the chicken rice balls many many years ago during my maiden and only holiday in Melaka. So if you asked me how the balls tasted like, I honestly tell you I could vague remember it at all.

It has been a while since I were here. Since moved to my current home, I seldom come to RH Plaza area for food. So I were happy to give this place a try few afternoons ago.

I am not sure who is this Onn and why it is named a cake house since there was not a single cake around. Definitely the place does not look like a bakery to me.

The shop was quite small with not many tables. The lady (I assume she is the taukeynio) is friendly and helpful in explaining her menu.

And I did some research later and discovered that there was an Onn Cake House in RH Plaza selling local kuihs and pastries. I believe they expanded their food business and selling more choices for their customers.

The shop is open daily (except Tuesday) from 9.30am to 9.00pm.

Okay, we came here for its chicken rice so here was how my plate looked like. RM8.00 per plate. Expensive right?? Two chicken rice balls. However two is definitely enough for me. If you want extra rice ball, it would be RM1 per ball.

Melaka chicken rice balls

The rice balls were nice, soft but not that oily. Not as flavourful like in other chicken rice shops but I love the chilli dipping. Very spicy for me. The chicken was alright. Not dry and they come in very chunky pieces.

Overall the chicken rice was nice. Not a disappointment.

However, I would highly recommend their so-called Melaka cendol. Super delectable and sweet, with hints of coconut milk, fresh milk and palm sugar. RM3.50 each.

Melaka cendol

The cendol does resemble our local ais kacang, ang tau chian luk (Hokkien for red beans with green cendol). Does Melaka cendol look like this? Or they localised the cendol to fit our local taste?

Initially the lady recommended their durian cendol but I said no as I did not want durian in my cendol. The lady assured me they would not add durian if I did not want to. So I got my normal Melaka cendol. You know me, never into sweet food and this cendol is not too sweet! Just right. Love it to max!

Now, a visit to this shop has satisfy my curiosity. No need to go so far to Melaka to have a taste of Melaka cuisine any more. *wink wink*

Scrumptious Oinks!

I were excited to come here for a Sunday lunch. Could not remember I have been here before but never mind. As long as there is air-conditioning, I am all for it.

First time you notice when you are here is the wall pictures. All are cute piglets. And that is why this place is named Oinks! The main dish is pork!

For those in alcohol, there is an alcoholic bar that serves beers and liquors.

I would not mind dining at the outside section of the cafe since there are ceiling fans but definitely not during afternoon hour. Too hot for my comfort.

So we opted for inside section which is cooler and more private since few tables in there.

Warning! Everything is big in Oinks! So sharing is highly recommended unless you have big appetite.

Even the drinks were served in big tall glasses such as juices.

Our first main was Spaghetti Carbonara. Simply a crowd pleaser. I were impressed by the creamy carbonara and delicious bacon bits. Could not get enough of this scrumptious Spaghetti Carbonara but I think I got to watch my waistline.

On the other hand, I can't say I enjoyed this Piccata Milanese. Or probably my unfamiliarity of Italian cuisine. Initially I planned to order German knuckles but for my kids' sake, we went for Piccata.

This Italian chicken recipe called for a crispy Parmesan crust but it was not crispy at all.  The meat was dry and not much seasoning to it. I do not really enjoyed it even with the sweet dipping sauce. However different story for the mash underneath the Piccata. The potato mash was creamy to my liking.

Probably I should have asked for different dipping. Maybe something more piquant.

We also have this Ham and Cheese Omelette breakfast set for sharing. Scrumptious platter, don't you agree? What fault could we find in a very traditional American breakfast set? Positively none.

So if you are a pork lover and love big portion, I am sure you would enjoy dining in Oinks! I do not mind coming again, maybe next round for its German knuckles but it wouldn't be any time soon.

Something else

We went to Nanyang Food Court last Sunday before our church service for breakfast.

Hubby loves the kolo mee here so he suggested to come here. This round, I tried something else.

I have this delicious fried mee hoon with prawns for RM6.00.  Love its wok hei fragrant, and generous amount of fried eggs and seafood. I do not mind coming back for its fried mee hoon. Maybe next round I have it with clams instead.

Besides his kolo mee, he also went to order something else that morning. A special bowl of beef soup wothout noodle (sup sapi) RM7.00 from a Malay food stall.

Hubby liked it but he did mentioned it was slightly lacked of that beef flavour in the soup. Maybe it would tasted nicer if cooked longer so the meat would be more tender and soup more flavourful from all those beef.

Anyway, it was a good breakfast to start off our Sunday!

And on Tuesday, I came here to buy lunch and decided to try the chicken rice stall. Packed a pack of steamed chicken rice for myself while kids have roasted chicken rice.

Surprised that they packed using those brown wrappers instead of styrofoam packs. Not many do that nowadays. Felt like those olden days where common practice was sellers wrapped chicken rice in a transparent wrapper and then newspaper. Lol.
