School holiday activities: To the cineplex

We are going to catch this movie in MBO this morning. I am sure the kids will going to enjoy this movie. A little treat from my sis. A treat for the kids who did well in their exams. :)

Yesterday I sent them to ex-nanny as the kids have been persuading me to do so for few days. So let them had some bonding time with their beloved nanny. And I had some peaceful time to catch up on my new novels and cross stitch. And also have brunch with friends and went for a facial in afternoon. *wink*

Nice movie

I seldom buy DVD.  Mostly hubby bought all the DVDs from his friend's shop.  RM10 for 3 DVDs.  So one night while he was choosing "Total Recall" DVD, there were no other DVD that attracted him.  So I chosen "Ted" and "The Odd Life of Timothy Green".



When I read the description of the Timothy Green and Jennifer Garner is in the movie, I wanted to watch it immediately.  It was worth watching and I really enjoy the story line.  If you are wondering what this movie is all about, then this is a little description for you:

Disney brings enchantment home with The Odd Life Of Timothy Green, an inspiring, magical story for the whole family starring Jennifer Garner. Cindy (Garner) and Jim Green are a happily married couple who can't wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. At first, it tells the painful part of a childless couple (which happen in real life) and how they wanted their child to be. Like few friends of mine who have no children.  They envy the other friends that have children.  With no choices, they have to go for adoption.  It may not be the same as having your own, but I believe with good environment and love, adopted children can be great like any other children. 

P/s I miss my 2 children.  Sigh!

Weekend Menu # 23: Long Beans Pancake

It was a lazy weekend for us. We woke up late yesterday, around 8am. The night before we watched "The Flowers of War" starring Christian Bale and Ni Ni till way past midnight! Very nice movie and I sticked to the screen for 2 hours plus. I never like watching war movie, but this historical movie is very touching. I think I cried more than twice watching it. A lot of blood and guns involved. *wink*

On Sunday we had our late breakfast before heading to Sunday Mass at 10.30am. After the one hour service, we went to our usual weekend grocery shopping. Don't feel like eating rice for lunch so I suggested that I made some pancakes. The night before my sister told me she is making long beans pancakes, so I also want to follow her.

It has been a while since I made this long beans pancakes. My dad loves this pancakes and can eat many pieces of it.

So I made the pancakes for our lunch.

Ingredients: Long beans, wheat flour, dried prawns, water, salt and light soy sauce

Just mix everything into a batter. Nice batter; not too much flour and not too watery. You can add beaten eggs and chopped spring onions into the batter, but I did not.

Add a bit of oil into wok. Ladle some of the batter into heated wok. When the bottom has turned brown, turn to other side and using spatula, flatten the pancake. Fry till it is brown. Dip the pancake in light soy sauce.

Simple pancake for the family and for my picky boy, he ate quite a lot of it. He was too full that he did not eat any rice for dinner. Lol! After our simple lunch, we took our afternoon nap. Then me and hubby watched "Ah Beng The Movie" which was very hilarious. Then we sent some of our packed boxes of stuff to our new house. We move a bit by bit, so when it is time to move in, we would not a ton of boxes to deal with!

Long time we did not have a DVD marathon. Suppose to watch another movie "The Woman In Black" starring Daniel Radcliffe last night, but I was too tired. And some more school re-opens today so need to get up to prepare for little girl. Maybe tonight........if I am not tired. *wink*

Going into 2012

And how are we going to celebrate our last night of the 2011??? Watching DVD at home with the kids tonight. Yes! Alvin & The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked DVD. Always a fan of the chipmunks and I enjoyed their first movie. I am sure the kids will like it especially little gal who watched the first movie. Once a while, I still played the DVD for the kids to watch.




So, looking forward to the New Year with new resolutions and more challenges ahead of me. Thank you everyone for all the supports and comments given throughout the year. It has been a wonderful year; and I get to know more blogger friends and learn more from you guys. Happy blogging and see you guys in 2012! Cheers, everyone!

Last of Harry Potter

Yes! Avid fan of Harry Potter series, ready! The last installment of Harry Potter films is in cinema now. I have not grab a ticket to the big screen yet but will definitely do so in the next few week.

I remember back in end of November 2001, when hubby and I first dated, Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone was just released in cinema. It was actually our second date that night. First was a lunch date in Hong Kong Noodle House. So, our romance started from there and together with Harry Potter movies, it has been 10 years now.

After a nice candelight dinner in San Francisco Grill on our second date, we went for the late night movie in Star Cineplex. It was our first movie together, so it is meaningful for both of us to watch the final installment in big screen. *wink* Hubby even has the original DVD collection of all Harry Potter movies; a good movie is worth keeping, he said.

That blue monkey

End of last month, three of us (hubby, little gal and myself) went to MBO for the first time to watch Avatar. We heard so much of the movie, so we have to watch it and judge for ourselves. The verdict? Superb work by James Cameron.

Last night my sis-in-law treated little gal to Alvin & The Chipmunks and she could not stop talking about it this morning. Before she went to MBO with her aunt, I told her first that her aunt is treating her to a movie yesterday.

Me: Remember we went to The Spring to watch movie??? MBO cinema??
Little gal: Yes. But I don't like the movie. It is not nice.
Me: Mummy love it. It is nice.
Little gal: No. I don't like that blue monkey story.
Me: Huh? Blue monkey?


That is to show that what great memory our children have. I am impressed that she still remember how Avatar looks like. Alright, it is blue in colour. Er monkey? Maybe because it has tail. *laugh*

So this morning, I asked her about Alvin & The Chipmunks movie....

Me: How is Alvin & The Chipmunk?
Little gal: Good.
Me: You like it?
Little gal: Yes.
Me: They sing and dance.
Little gal: Yes.

So, there. She can be a movie critic now.

A rainy Thursday

It has been raining the whole morning and yet it has not stopped! I have few agenda in my sleeve but because of rain, I have to postpone them. One: I am supposed to meet up with a friend over lunch but I am too lazy to drive out. So SMS her that I am taking a raincheck and have agreed to meet up tomorrow for lunch instead. I hate the hassle of holding umbrella, wet myself in the rain and driving in a slow jam during rainy days. So, that was the “good” reasons of ending up at home instead.

Secondly: I am supposed to do something with my car. Plan to wash it and also get rid of the urine stench in my car. It was my little gal. For the past two days, she has been wetting my car after picking her up from her school. She couldn’t hold herself that long to reach my parents’ house, so wet my car instead. Good thing that she wet on the floor of the car, not on the seat, but I guess it got into the seat as well when she sat. I only took out the car mats for washing and drying, did not thought of checking on the car seat in first place. The smell get worse today. Supposed to get hubby to get out the car seat for washing and drying but look like the sun wouldn’t be shinning bright and hot today. Now I have to spray neutraliser everytime I want to get into the car, and even put some pandan leaves and "mak chow" leaves (I don't know what it is called but that what we call in Hakka) to minimise the smell. Anyone with better solution in get rid of the smell?

My little gal has been so anti-Sun lately; heard her saying "I don't like the sun" and "Go away sun" for two evenings. The sun was indeed bright and hot for the past few days so my little gal was complaining of the glaring effect of the sun in the car. Now the sun is indeed against her! No swimming for her today and her mummy's plan has to be cancelled. Lol! So what I did in the morning with the rain pouring outside? I watched DVD. I watched X-Men Origins: Wolverine this morning. I was not a big fan of X-Men movies when it started screening in cinemas back in 2000. But the big names of Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry were a big attraction. Now this latest movie is depicting the life of Wolverine before he was officially a member of the X-Men. And men, isn’t Hugh Jackman looked so rugged and handsome in there! And with that body to die for! Lol! There was a part where he was naked and running around without a single cloth on his body. Not that x-rated, mind you but the scenes when he jumped from the waterfall and sitting naked in a barn. I bet most girls would love to see more. *wink*

And this afternoon? I have a little “project" to do. Actually I have been thinking of making a greeting card. I have been spring cleaning my shelves and notice I still have some colour cards, stickers and strings; been thinking of doing something out of them. Since little gal is at baby sitter's house, I thought of doing something to pass my afternoon, instead of sleeping it away. Lol! For who and what, you might be wondering? Shall tell you more probably in my next or next next (or next next next) post! *wink* Stay tune!

Tale of a slumdog

Have you watched “Slumdog Millionaire”? Hubby bought dvd of the movie and heard so much controversy and critics of it, we decided to watch and be judges of it yesterday.

“Slumdog Millionaire” stunned the Oscar last week by winning 8 out of 10 nominations. Amid the tremendous critics it proved to be a worth watching movie. It is a story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India’s “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” However before the final question, Jamal was been arrested on suspicion of cheating. Out of desperation, Jamal told his life story of how he grew up in the slums with his brother and through each chapter of his story, it reveals the key to the answer to each question in the show.

Some parts of the Jamals’ stories touched on racist issue and child beggars, so it was pretty heart-wrecking and touching to see those young children striving to survive the cruelty and poverty. After watching “Slumdog Millionaire” I feel that my children is very lucky to live on this part of the world and never know how poverty like and its affect on other children. Been pampered, my little gal can choose what food to eat and clothing to wear, where as some children aren’t that lucky. Sigh!

Movies catching up to do

There are so many summer movies around the cinema now that I can't hardly decide which one to watch. Usually hubby and myself will choose the better rating movies to watch in cinema. Usually those sci-fiction movies with impressive sound effects. Romance movies we will buy DVDs instead. *wink*

I got preview from friends that X-Files movie not so good, but I have yet to watch it. As a die-hard X-Philes, I shall grab a DVD and judge for myself. For now, I am keen to watch some of the available and up-coming movies, such as this Wall-E movies. I think my little gal will enjoy it in cinema.

Oh yeah! The mummy movie returns with Brendan Fraser fighting against the resurrected Chinese emperor. I cant wait to watch this movie as my favourite actors (Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh) are in there!!

An avid fan of Abba, it would be interesting to catch Mamma Mia The Movie starring the handsome Pierce Brosnan (former 007 agent). Never know that he can sing.....hmm

After the movie

We watched Ah Long Pte Ltd last Saturday! I got 2 free tickets from Star Cineplex, so decided to utilize them. Initially plan to watch 10,000BC but darling hubby has bought its DVD, so decided to watch other movie instead. Ah Long Pte Ltd is a worth-watching comedy, packed with laughter and songs. You will laugh till your jaw dropped and muscle cramped! We enjoyed the movie very much.

The movie focuses on a life of a female gangster cum money lending triad leader and a sissy male dance instructor. The woman’s dream on bettering the money lending business with less violence and more systematic way of doing business. In order to avoid constant nagging from her mother on marriage proposal, she forced this dance instructor to marry her! Enter this sissy dance instructor into her life and money lending business! Either he likes it or not, he has to help his wife in re-constructing the business plan

The director of the movie is trying to portrait the real life of money lender and way of tormenting their victims (borrowers). There was a part where a young victim pledging with the loan sharks not to beat her family up! It was heart-breaking when I think that it is what happening in the real world. Do they have rights to beat up their victims for not paying on time or turn back on them? Whose fault it is in this case? Should we blame the borrowers for borrowing money from them? Should we blame the lenders for offering such deeds to them and charging high interest?

Pretty unfortunate that youngster, businessmen and financially-struggling people are resorting to borrowing money from those money lenders and in the end, tied down with huge amount of unsettled debts. Eventually that leading to disastrous ending, such as family break-up, becoming fugitive by running away, business fall apart, and sometimes resulting in suicide/death. Our government in previous years have been advising publics against borrowing money via media as not to encourage such illegal transaction, but life goes on! Money lending companies will never die off whether we like it or not! When there is demand, there is supply for such goods and services………(oops, now I am getting too serious! LOL!) On the real serious not I am sad to discover I am no longer have privilege to access my blog from office! I got blocked! ;p Meaning I can't go into my blog during the day time, so I would have much limited access to my beloved blogs! That does not mean I will give up and neglect my blog. :) So from now onward, I will have lesser posts due to inaccessibility to blog world……sob sob sob. :( (psst, it is not April Fool's joke, it is one day late by the way to play prank on others)

Relaxing Thursday

I have a wonderful day yesterday without little gal around! Hahahaha! Now I feel guilty enjoying myself and sending little gal away at babysister's house!

As next week we would be going away for holiday, I have requested aunty (babysister) to help me look after her yesterday, and since she doesnt mind having her around, so I was pretty happy to have some time off to myself! *wink*. After a hearty breakfast of nasi lemak at home (see previous post), we went to Crystal Bowling Centre at BDC Shopping Complex for a game of 2! I havent play bowling since I met my hubby (which is 5 years since) as he is not keen on bowling. However, since his bank is having some bowling competition soon and they need to form a bowling team, so he asked me to join him for a game! After absence of 5 years, my bowling skill has never improved! LOL~ Kept "washing the drain" on several attempts. Nevertheless we have some fun, plus the pain on hand and fingers!!

After the game, we went to Star Cineplex to catch a movie! As I am a big fan of Will Smith, we went for his latest movie "I Am Legend". This is worth recommended movie (for Will Smith's fans) as once again, he is giving his 100% best performance. A lot of chasing and monsters roaming around, you get both thriller and suspense in your bone! The sound effect is great too!

My next movie would be Nicholas Cage's National Treasure!

Meeting a young fan

One of my favourite cartoon shows when I was a kid, Alvin & The Chipmunks is going to be in an action movie for the first time! Wouldn’t you believe it? How many Chipmunks fans out there dying to catch the movie, release in cinemas on 13 December? The movie starring Jason Lee, David Cross and Cameron Richardson.

The Chipmunks (minus Theodore) made their special appearance at Tun Jugah on 4 December afternoon! Yahoo! Thanks to Star Cineplex for bringing in The Chipmunks to Tun Jugah! Being a fan, I didn’t miss taking some shots of the giant chipmunks roaming around the shopping centre. That’s one advantage working in a shopping centre and furthermore, as part of the management team. I got the chance of meeting artistes when they coming for meet-the-fan sessions.

Looking forward to seeing Alvin, Simon and Theodore, the singing chipmunks in action soon! Not so sure whether I could catch it in the cinema or just have to wait for the DVD (which I can keep as collection) …. Hmm.
