Discovering Telok Melano

This was where it all began. Where a highway was built on. A secluded village with  a beautiful beachline.  Opening for public use recently, this road comnecting Telok Melano village to Sematan stretch of Pan Borneo Highway.

We went for a day trip to Telok Melano in Sematan last Saturday. Slightly more than 1.5 hours drive along the Pan Borneo Highway, not included the time we stopped for breakfast along the way. We reached the 0km of the Pan Borneo destination.

Initially planned to do so over the school holiday but hubby was busy on both weekends and I wasn't well on the day we planned to go. So we postponed to the following weekend.

It was a warm morning. We started off with very foggy drive but when the morning set in, the fog cleared and we had a nice countryside view.

Lovely view of the mountain. I believe that is where the Tanjung Datu national park is located.

The junction to Telok Melano was on the right side, along the way to Sematan. New road so it was a very nice and smooth drive.

At the end of the highway was Telok Melano. We spotted some canopies where trade ministry organised some exhibition and sales booth.

We hurriedly walked to the beach. The others could not wait to hit the sea. Yours truly just enjoyed herself taking photographs and sun bathing on the beach. 

We spent a good 2 hours on the beach. A fun Saturday discovering a new place. 

Staple is good

First time trying the Sanwei chicken rice stall in Everwin Kopitiam.

We settled for something staple for lunch one day. Chicken rice!!

It was good. Have the best elsewhere but Sanwei chicken rice was alright and worthy for RM5. Big serving too.

My girl had the roasted type while I went for the steamed chicken rice. The rice was fluffy and soft but slightly lack of that chicken rice fragrance. 

What is important in chicken rice is its chilli dipping. Luckily the chilli dipping was nice. One saucer wasn't enough for me and thankfully I also had Jan's share of chilli dipping for myself. 

We were served with this soup. Rather bland and nothing to shout about. 

It was a good lunch for both of us. We are contemplating to come back anytime soon. Not mainly because of the chicken rice but there are some other stalls that we haven't try yet. This coffee shop definitely has something to offer.

Hi everyone!!

It is mid-week again. Time really flies. Feel like this year is tick-tocking very fast.

This month would be another busy month other than schools. Hubby is flying next week for his office convention in Barcelona. He is spending a week there.

My eldest is celebrating her 13th birthday. Oh dear, kids grow so fast. Where has all the time go??

And my sister is popping out anytime this month. Super excited and same time, anxious for her. She is going for the natural birth, so hope she has a smooth delivery.

Weather has cooled down this week, and we just had a crazy rain today. Now it has stopped and the air outside is nice. 

Ok, a short post tonight. Hope everyone has a good week. 

Roasted

I was roasted under the scorching hot sun! If possible, I would prefer to stay indoor than venture out.

Over the school holiday, we stayed indoor as much as possible. Other than sending Jamie to his kindergarden holiday class and kids' tuition and enrichment classes, we mostly stayed in the comfort of our air conditioned house.

As on weekends, other than breakfast and church service, we didn't go out longer than necessary.

2 Sunday ago after church, we went to Padungan area for lunch with my brother-in-law and family. It wasn't that jammed and most coffee shops were closed. Maybe because of Ching Ming festival, I wasn't sure.

Our lunch venue? Wan Nurn Barbeque, Padungan. Any Kuchingites would know and recognise this old and well known Chinese coffee shop with its nice and tempting roast and bbq meats.

It was unusually easy to find a decent parking and just a short walk to this corner coffee shop. The place was filled with lunch goers but we were able to secure a table for 10 of us. 

We had this huge platter of mix roasted meats. We also ordered a plate of braised eggs and 2 bowls of Chinese watercress pork rib soup. 

Our lunch cost RM117 plus drinks. A very good meal but weather was too warm for us to stay any minute longer. I could felt the sweat dripping from my face after I finished my lunch! Really cannot stand this warm weather. 

No spare parts, please

Last week, I had my 2nd visit to Everwin Kopitiam.

Saw someone posted on fb on this well known kueh chap so I decided to drop by one day with my girl before sending her off to school.

Apparently this kueh chap operator used to operate in Wisma Saberkas but I had never tried it. Curiosity kills cat, people said. And that was why I was eager to taste it out. So near to my place some more, so no harm going there. 

When I have kueh chap, I usually request for no spare parts in my kueh chap. So, no exception this time as I asked the operator to omit spare parts (internal organs) as I don't take them. And he was good enough to give more meats to substitute the spare parts. 

And I was marvelled when I removed the plastic spoon to reveal chicken feet in my bowl!! This was definitely first for me. Chicken feet in kueh chap. 

For RM6 (small) , it was nice and loaded with deliciousness. The broth was herbally but not overly strong to my liking. 

The best part was the chilli dipping.  Very hot. But I liked it. 

The only con was that they used plastic spoon and wooden chopstick. I never fancy disposable cutlery. Wish that they use the real spoon and chopstick.

Everwin Steamboat has opened for business for few months now. We haven't try it out yet. One day, when we feel like having steamboat. Opens daily from 9am. 

Different kind

My man took a week off to fly to KL to attend a good friend's wedding on Sunday and spent 2 nights in KL before flying off with his old Kapit primary school classmates to Laos. 

A great holiday with his friends in Laos but he wasn't used to their food. Different kind of cuisine, not what we eat over here. So he was kind of missing our local cuisine while he was there although he spent 2 nights there. 

He didn't buy much but did bought few fabrics and ground coffee home.  Unusual for him as he tends to buy a lot whenever he is travelling. However this round he was mostly touring around Vientiane, and enjoyed their unique cuisine. 

The next day after he was back home, he brought me and Jan out for breakfast. He was taking additional day leave. And what we had for breakfast?? Mamak!! 

Jan went for mee maggi goreng with egg on too. Lovely plate of fried noodle with nicely done fried egg, don't you agree??

As for yours truly, I was forever stuck with fried mee hoon. I enjoyed mine as well. Nicely fried and flavourful. 

As for the man, he missed his fried mamak noodle so he had it that morning. Must be satisfying for him.

So, each of us had different kind of fried noodles for breakfast. Which one would you like?? 

Downstairs

Before Jan and Jay went to their taekwondo centre which was on the 2nd floor of  Fat Cat Cafe, we had our lunch downstairs at this J&J cafeteria.

We initially wanted to settle our lunch in Fat Cat Cafe but they closed very early that Sunday. Totally nothing to eat and the staff ready to close the shop when we reached there around 1230pm. So we decided to walk to J& J Cafeteria, which was 2 shops away.

Weather was warm so I ordered this sarsi cincau but it came with milk in it. It was okay with me as I do enjoy milk.

My lunch was nasi goreng kampung. I requested for less spicy as i was sharing it with Jamie.

It was alright. The flavour didnt blown me away. Rice was slightly wet, which i dont really prefer.

The fried egg was overly done. Yolk too dond. And they used big anchovies which werent crispy for me. I prefer smaller and crispier anchovies in my nasi goreng kampung.

As for Jan and Jay, they weren't that hungry, so they went for the roti telur. 2 pieces for Jay while Jan had one piece.

We rarely patronise this cafe or other coffee shops in Stutong. Only when the kids have their taekwondo test that we would hang out in the vicinity. Otherwise we don't come here often.
