Weekend Menu #4

We went to supermarket to buy some groceries and ingredients home in the morning! My god! People are starting to rush for Chinese New Year, everyone buying those leeks, cabbages and other vegetables and meats for stock-up! I also “kiasu”, squeezing with those crowds! Hahahah! Now I am starting to feel the festive mood. Feel like cooking today (I still remember my New Year resolution on cooking and eating healthy home-cooked food), so here are my simple menu.

Seaweed with egg soup & Stir fried China Big Kailan Stem

Here is my recipe of Soy Sauce Pork Rib. Amount of ingredients are based on your own preference:

Soy Sauce Pork Rib

Recipe

Pork rib (you can cut those thick chunks into small pieces to expedite the cooking process)
Chinese mushroom, soak in water to soften, remove stem and cut mushroom into half
Hard-boiled eggs
Crushed Garlic and Sliced Ginger
Salt and sugar to taste
Light soy sauce
Dark soy sauce
Water
Cooking oil

1. Heat up a little oil in wok. Once hot, add in garlic and ginger.
2. Once fragrant, add in pork rib. Stir till half cooked. Add in the mushroom and hard boiled eggs. You can use a fork and make hole on the egg before add in to have the colour and taste soak into the eggs
3. Add salt, sugar, light soy sauce and dark soy sauce to taste. Stir to mix well. Add in water to simmer
4. Simmer till pork rib is soft
Enjoy and happy cooking. :)

Home Alone

Not really home alone, just that the feeling of us staying in Kuching house for Chinese New Year this year. My brother and sister in law went back to Kapit yesterday, so only left me, hubby and little gal at home. Yes, we are staying in Kuching for Chinese New Year this year. The house was pretty quiet and less activities.
There would not be any open house at our house this year, instead we are celebrating it at my parents' house. We want to save some money for other "expenses and purchase of new asset" this year that require our attention. Sigh!
We have bought some cookies and I am planning to do no-bake cheesecake. My 1st attempt at it, so hopefully it turns out good. I have bought new clothes, as well as for little gal. Hubby like other men, never bother to get new clothes, but he did bought few office shirts and pants.
We are thinking of buying some fireworks for little gal's enjoyment but against the will of both grandparents. They are concern on the safety and air pollution that doing more harm on little gal.....er, I am thinking of those fireworks that you lighted up in the ground and display of fireworks in the sky, not the type where you got to hold in your hand.
Little gal fancy watching display of fireworks and were not bothered by the noise it makes. Maybe this year, I will try to wake her up on the 1st day of Chinese New Year when the clock struck 12 midnight. People are starting to play fireworks since this few days. We did manage to see some display.

Au Revoir

Delicious-looking menu...yummy!

Some photos for remembrance....

Table setting and decoration

Me with my boss (left) and another colleague

Sayings on the T-shirt

A parting party for my lady boss at The Junk on Friday evening.

A total of 20 people attending the party, with 5 course menu on the board. We were served with white wine, as the menu was mostly seafood! We were fed with fish soup as starter, then fried eel with salad as side dish, followed by grilled tiger prawns, oven-baked salmon, and finally grilled lamb rack.
A private room was reserved for our function, so you can imagine our noise and laughters in the room! And not forgetting nicely customised printed t-shirt for the night where everyone in good sporting spirit to wear them.........

It has been wonderful to have you as a mentor, colleague and friend
You have taught me a lot and guide me through all these years
Let us remember the good memories that we shared together
And my wishes are all the best and good luck in your future

We will miss you! Au Revoir (good bye) and keep in touch.

Highlighted!

Just for the sake of ushering good lucks and looking good for the Chinese New Year, I have highlighted my black hair over the weekend! What do you think? Thank god, I did not overdo the colour as I do not like my hair to look like having “dried leaves”! However I think I should have choose a slightly brighter colour as I cant hardly see the highlight unless with close view.

I had a date with Jen on Saturday morning as she also wants to highlight her long tresses. It has been few months since I meet her in person. I think the last time I talked to her was after we came back from Kapit trip, passing some black olives to her. We did have a short chat, especially on her upcoming wedding! *wink* Not wanting to spill the beans on her wedding, I better keep it a secret. Let Jen brief you on her wedding plan herself!

7 days countdown

7 more days in welcoming the Year of Rat in the new Chinese Lunar Year. Hubby and myself are not totally in the mood for the celebration. Reasons due to some unlucky events occur on my family. Or maybe I should say, Year of Pig has been rather unkind to my darling hubby.

Hubby’s textile business closed down in last quarter of the year after operating for few months. Business was really sour. The shop was actually 2nd shop after hubby closed down the 1st one a year ago due to higher rental and poor business. Just last week our car was stolen when we were having pre-CNY dinner. Hubby’s relationship with his boss is turning bitter. The boss is so inconsiderate and selfish, hubby cannot stand him anymore.

So I am hoping for the New Year, a kinder God of Prosperity that will take a pity on us. Better New Year with better luck, wealth and health!

Update on cousin

My cousin has regain consciousness on Monday after a week in sedative state. She can recognise people but her speech capability is still not recovering. Doctor still monitoring and scanning her brain and determining the damages to her brain cell. So far her condition is improving.
Give her some times soon she would be discharged from hospital and spending the Chinese New Year at home with her loved ones!

City of Cats

Kuching, my hometown for the past 30 years. It is nicknamed "City of Cat", maybe it is full of cats in the past? I were not so sure about its name history, but I definitely did not see many stray cats around the city.

I believe photographs say more than words as simply, I cannot describe Kuching well, other than it is a beautiful, slow-pace and friendly city of its own.

Nice photograph after the rain has stopped. On right hand side, the famous Tua Pek Kong temple undergoing renovation work.

Old Main Bazaar, with new DUN Building (across Sarawak River) still work-in-progress

Matang Hill as the backdrop, providing such a serene view

One of the few cat statues around that are in the festive mood
