Together with a girlfriend, we checked out this 171 Home Cafe last week.
Open from Monday to Saturday; 6.30am to 2pm and 6pm to 10pm, this home cafe offers varieties of local food and nyonya kuihs to patrons. If you couldn't see the road sign clearly, this 171 Home Cafe is situated in Lorong 12 Ensing Timur, Stapok.
The place was airy; so not so warm to sit in. And I noticed that they still have their CNY decor around the premises.
Posters on the wall promoting their food. It is good to notice they have narration on food.
Time to check out their menu. They have breakfast menu, rice set for lunch, and local dishes such as kacangma, pork trotter and other.
After scanning through their menu, I decided to try their tomato crispy noodle (RM5.00). A true Sarawak specialty dish that one must try when visit the Land of Hornbill.
And it was a surprise that they served it in a big plate. Such a big portion that I couldn't finish it up. Taste-wise it was not too sweet and sour; just nice for my tastebuds.
And I also wanted to try the fried char kueh. Again, a big portion fir RM5.00. I went for salty version but they do have sweet as well as mixed version to cater to your preferences.
Well fried and seasoned; my friend and I enjoyed it very much. It was not too oily at all.
My lovely friend had a taste of its Sarawak laksa. It was alright, nothing to shout about. It was not too spicy or salty. My friend actually added 2 limes juice into her broth to suit her taste! Some people, like their laksa to be more sour. Lol.
I love their drink mugs. So nice to be served with such beautiful mugs.
Did I get my nyonya kuih fix that morning?? No. Maybe I should next time as their kuih looked good. My friend bought these kuihs home.
I think I would drop by early in the morning to get their sio bee (siew mai). Till next time, I will be back. It is just few minutes drive from my house. *wink*
They hang these banners on the fence promoting their kuih nyonya, breakfasts and lunches.

Like the name implies, looks very homey.. I like the dimsum and kuih..
This place is nearby to your house right. It's good to have a girlfriend going out for food hunting together.
Yes. Few minutes drive only. She is a housewife. So got many free time. Haha.
The mugs are so beautiful, can bring them home? Muahaha
Ah, you did not try the nyonya kuih so can't write here whether they are tasty or not.
Looks like a pleasant place for a cup of coffee as well as a bowl of noodles!
You seems discovering new eateries nowadays!
I love their mugs too. Look very nice. It's nearby your home so I bet you'll definitely get to try their nyonya kuih soon :D
Lots of people doing that there - running a restaurant in their homes. I think this is not allowed here - no business at residential premises, unless they do it secretly and nobody complains...or it is in the kampung. Almost every house does it!
What a lovely ambiance, Rose. I bet it feels like having a meal at home! :)
The mugs are indeed very nice...
