Eat and shop

The previous post was on fun reason of been in Aeon Mall. Here comes the food and the shopping part of the mall.

The mall is almost fully occupied; only few outlets not yet open. Most branded outlets are in these 3 floors of retail spaces and few is new to Kuching. Otherwise, you could see the same outlets in most shopping malls.

The f&b outlets are mostly on the upper floor and one of them was this Food Avenue.

We went to the Food Avenue for lunch before our shopping in Aeon.

After almost an hour walk around the mall, we decided to eat in the Food Avenue, which is next to Seoul Garden. Not a big fan of Korean cuisine, either one of us so we opted for food court for more choices.  The place was packed with lunch goers but we managed to table-pool with another family and had our lunch.

I left the ordering to my man as he and our 2 older kids went around the food court. I ended up with this kolo mee with drumstick (RM10.90) to share with Jamie. He finished most of the noodle while I took the meat.

The other kids went for Western where the girl had her favourite, fish n chop while Jay had sausage set.

Hubby tried the Penang curry laksa (RM6.90) which he enjoyed very much.

And he also ordered this dish to share with me. He said it was ayam penyet but to me, it looked more like fried chicken. No spice detected. Not nice and we wouldn't order this dish again. They gave us chilli sauce rather than sambal for the ulam.

After filling up our tummies, we went to Aeon supermarket for our grocery shopping.

It was exciting to see many imported and Japanese stuff. 

The sushi bar that was next to the delicatessen was tempting too but the long queue deter me from buying any. Another day for them.

We did ended up with things that we wanted, like this alcoholic drink.

And the NZ super sweet rocket apples.

So new

We aren't the type that want to be first few to a place that is so new. We don't like the jam, the crowd, and the craziness that come with it.

As expected, there was a big ooh-haa over the new mall in the city since its soft opening on 20 April. Everyone were (and still) talking about the new mall. Anyway, after 2 weeks since its opening, we finally made it to Aeon Mall.

First impression of the 2-weeks old mall? Felt like going to a shopping mall in KL with the design, concept and atmosphere. And he wow factor? The cat theme in the mall. I loved the super cute themed cats that they have.

So many statues, gardens and places in the mall that we could take photos and selfies in. Definitely not a boring place to be. And that was just the fun part, what about the shopping and food part?

Noodles

On Labour's Day after our morning exercise, we went for breakfast in Batu Kawa Megabite food court.

Each of us had noodles for breakfast but we ordered from three different noodle stalls.

Special RM5.00

I went for this kolo mee stall that operates near my place but on public holiday and Sunday they operates in this Megabite food court.

Jan and Jamie each had the normal kolo mee while I had its special kolo mee for RM5.

Jay on the other hand, wanted kampua that morning so I ordered this soy sauce kampua for him. Big portion but no problem for this noodle lover who finished it all by himself.

Mixed pork soup set RM10.00

My big man saw this Supreme Prince fish maw stall (at the back of the shop) that also serve mixed pork soup. He ordered a special set for himself. And wow, we both agreed that the soup was good. Fragrant with slight taste of wine and ginger. The noodle was not something that we usually seen or eat; very fine noodle. Something like Angel's hair.  Hubby enjoyed his noodle and the soup very much. 

So, that was our noodle breakfast that morning. Filling and good. What can we say? We can't do without noodles. ;)

Joyful dinner

It was a joyful dinner in celebrating my girl's 12th birthday in Joy-I Palace last week.

We were the first to arrive. Time set at 630pm but we reached there before that and the others messaged that they would be late. So we ordered our drinks first.  I had its refreshing watermelon juice.

The waitress immediately served us with 2 baskets of crackers. The boys almost finished up the crackers. And then my dad called me, asked me to order first so I ordered from its set dinner menu.

The place has a big birthday function too but thankfully we were seated at the end of the hall so we weren't affected by the noise and crowds near the stage area.

I liked the ambiance of the dining hall. Very bright yet comfortable. The tables were not near to each other and create more spaces around the hall. They also had rooms with karaoke set and more private but one must order food worth more than RM400! My sis who made the table reservation a day before told them to place us at the hall instead.

Soon enough my family members came and the food also started to arrive on the table one by one.

The dishes were good. I enjoyed its salted egg yolk prawns the most. The steamed Teochew-styled sea bass was my least favourite. Somehow the fish didn't tasted good and tender. However, overall it was a delightful dinner. The birthday girl did enjoyed the dinner.

Saturday round-up

We have been busy on Saturday. It was a nice morning with beautiful, sunny weather.

Kids had their 4th replacement class on Saturday in school but it was the anti-dadah campaign day so all the students have interactive games, runs and activities that day.

The youngest was in need of a good hair cut so I took him to his favourite saloon in the morning after our breakfast.

In the afternoon after picked up the schoolers, we went to check out the new Stapok-Matang bridge. Now going to Matang is so convenient and near.

As for lunch, we wanted to try out the new Nasi Lemak burger from McD's but the queue at the drive-thru was so long  that we gave up and had nasi campur instead.

In the evening, we had dinner with my parents and my side of family. It has been since CNY that we got together so it was an overdue affair. At the same time, a little birthday celebration for my girl. My firstborn turned 12 last Saturday.

We had a Chinese-styled dinner in this Joy-I Palace in Jalan Petanak.  My first time dining here. More of our dinner in my next post.

His favourite for brunch

A couple of days ago, I went for brunch with my dad. We drove to Jalan Rambutan to this old coffee shop, Mui Chin Cafe. It is the next block to Thompson Corner, opposite the police station. The coffee shop is next to Nasi Kandar Rasool, where you could order its food over.

My dad likes to come here, especially for its chicken rice. That morning, true enough, he ordered his favourite for brunch. It was good, I have to admit. I tasted the chicken and the chilli dipping. Both were so good. 

My dad has this habit of adding some soy sauce (thick or light) into chilli dipping. Kind of reducing the spiciness or added some saltiness and taste to it. So after I took this photo, he immediately pour some soy sauce to the chilli sauce. His version of chicken rice' s chilli dipping.

The chicken was succulent and moist. Nice to be eaten just like that. I love my chicken like this. Not like most shops where they slice and bang the meat with cleaver. 

That same stall also selling Sarawak laksa so I ordered a bowl to try. It is one of the best laksa in Kuching apparently but I have never go there for breakfast. It closes on Sunday so it explains why I've never been there. And I seldom venture to this part of the city too.

The laksa was alright to me but slightly oily. I couldn't take much of the gravy as it was spicy and oily. However they were generous with the ingredients which was worthy of RM6.

Overall our brunch costs RM12. Thanks dad for the brunch treat. ;)

Another day

It was another day in life, busy with the usual daily grind.

It was one of the days where I went to find my mum for our weekly market and breakfast date. 

RM6 Sarawak laksa

After done with our market buy, we went to have breakfast in one of the coffee shops in Kenyalang Park. A small bowl of Sarawak laksa.

I dropped mum at her house but before I left, I went to check on her grapevine. Few weeks ago, they were small bunches like little green seeds.

Now, there are few bunches and everyone couldn't wait for them to turn ripe, provided the critters or birds don't get to them first.

In the afternoon, I felt like having something spicy and different. Somehow that day, I felt like having nasi campur so I headed to Curry House in MJC for its delicious and sinful spread of dishes. Lunch by myself. I don't mind some day. ;)

I ended up with 4 dishes on my plate. I opted for normal white rice instead of Briyani rice. Curry squid, deep fried spiced bitter gourd, stir fried lady fingers and fried drumstick. 

And talking about deep fried spiced bitter gourd, my man surprised me in the evening with this pack of snack.

Locally made in Kuching

Surprise! Surprise! Made in Kuching, this bitter gourd snack was good. Slightly bitter and salty with less oil, it was a healthier snack as it claimed. I couldn't stop snacking on it.
