Fun in the sun

Maybe I should re-name this post title. Instead of "Fun in the sun", it should be "Not so fun in the sun"!

What so fun to be under the scorching hot sun?? Sweaty and all those walking and exercises tired me out. Some more I have to drag myself up from my comfy bed on a Saturday morning when my alarm was off! But I guess when everyone is together and have something done as a family, it is literally fun.

We woke up before the sun was up last Saturday to attend a sports day in Kuching Amphitheatre organised by hubby's company in conjuction with the 1st ever National Sports Day. And no, it was not the red shirt gathering albeit the red shirts.

We reached there around 630am and most participants were there. Some drove from Serian and Sri Aman to attend this event. Hubby was one of the committee members so we got VIP car parking and no need to walk so far to the amphitheatre.

Sleepy faces

At first, the kids were rather grumpy. Why not? Woke up so early on a weekend. But once we were there, everyone were pretty hyped to find out what the day has in store for us!

We were all in red!

Cameras snapping and mingle around before the 1st event started at 7am.

Aerobic!! That was fun! Ages since I did an aerobic session.

Next was a little performance by the football youth club, which funded by hubby's company.

Then the real exercise started. Fun run! You can walk, jog and/or run at your own pace and that was why it was called a fun run!

Of course, kids and I did not participate. We waited and entertained ourselves at the venue while the group were running the 3.2km stretch. Less than 30 minutes all the participants done with the fun run.

Played with red balloons

An apple a day

The happiest part?? Besides the lucky draw, we got refreshment to fill up our hungry tummies!!

The side of the exclusive Sarawak Club

We also enjoyed the beautiful view amidst the heat. It was rather foggy that morning! Look at the gloomy and greyish sky.

Everyone went home drop dead tired and we had an epic afternoon nap!!

Let's do breakfast in Backerei

Kids have gone back to schools and I can have some peaceful and free times in the morning with Jamie. The weather has been so kind on us since the starting of the school term and we are able to enjoy some intermittent rains now and then.

Now with only Jamie at my side, it is much easier for me to bring him out and enjoying our breakfast dates again. Just another day, we went to check out a new cafe!

I have wanted to try this place for a while but it was quite far from my place and I were lazy to drive all the way there.

However, few weeks ago, I redeemed a special promotion voucher from Groupon to dine in this place so I "jio" (invited) my girlfriend for breakfast here.

Backerei Corner used to operate in Jalan Tun Jugah before they moved to Tun Jugah mall but that outlet also closed down. And now they are operating in this current location (Jalan Song). Same row with SCR (now Singapore Food Centre). Their pastries were good but I have never tried their breakfast set.

This current place looked clean in simple setting, unlike in their previous establishment which was classy. Their fresh baked pastries were very tempting in those display cabinets.

They have 5 breakfast sets to order from. RM13.90 per set.

While waiting for our food, we were served with this warm honey lemon. RM3.50 per cup. Great to quench thirst on a warm day.

And while my friend and I were busy playing with my friend's new Samsung Galaxy S6 edge and using this plant as our object,

...my boy was enjoying his own exploration in the outlet.

We waited quite a while for our food to be served. No other table other than ours so it was not so acceptable to have such a long waiting time. However when they did finally come, we finished them up in no time. Probably we were too hungry then. Lol.

My friend had Backerei Furhstuck which has a slice of beef pastrami, Laugen sandwich, hard-boiled egg and sauteed mushroom.

A close-up of beef pastrami and sauteed mushroom.

My friend commented she would prefer garlic bread than the plain baguette.

And this was my breakfast set. Desayano Del Backerei. What a name! It served tomato bruschetta and baked potato omelette and after all those calories, I were full!!

The bruschetta was more like pizza tomato sauce. I prefer to have more texture to my bruschetta for some bite. The potato omelette was fine but it would be even nicer with more salt to it. And not forgetting the pathetic-looking salad. Not much of a salad, I said. Just 2 thinly sliced tomato slices and a couple of lettuces did not called salad.

But I got the breakfast sets at cheaper rate at RM9.00 per set. So they may not look and taste that great but it was worth the promotional price. Maybe next time I would stick to their sandwiches.

Chicken rice

A short post today and from the title, you know that I am going to talk about chicken rice. Yup! Chinese chicken rice.

I love going to this food centre as it is nearer and the food is quite good and reasonable there.

One of the stalls is this chicken rice stall. I love its steamed chicken while the kids would go for its roasted chicken.

One afternoon, I had my lunch there with a girlfriend and I ordered the steamed chicken rice. RM5.00 for drumstick portion.

The rice was fluffy and soft although I could use to have more fragrance and oil to it. But chicken drumstick and its spicy chilli dipping saved the whole dish. The chicken was moist and tender while its chili dipping was spicily good.

Overall it was the best chicken rice I could find in this vicinity.

And I also tapau-ed the roasted chicken rice for the kids' lunch.

Chicken rice. We can basically find it anywhere. Can have it for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper.  A staple food it has become.

Miscellaneous Picture #46: The old Courthouse

Albeit belated post, here are some beautiful photos to share with you. I took those photographs end of last month when we went to the Fiesta Makan in Kuching Waterfront.

We passed by the old Kuching Courthouse en route to the Waterfront and while we were there, we hang out for a while and snapped some photos.

This old courthouse has some sentimental values for us as it was hubby's first project when he came to Kuching. He supplied the belian woods for its roof and flooring. And this venue was one of my wedding shots venue. I love the old fixtures and the colonial look of the building.

Eerie-looking

Glad we brought the children here so they can enjoyed and seen one of the historical buildings around the city. They may not understand now but it is our duty to tell them on our history and what we preserved and valued.

What's what

Happy weekend, guys!!

Not the best week of my life this week but I kept reminding myself that it is merely a rough week and everything will be okay eventually. I know brighter days will come.

I've mentioned over here that Jay has few nose bleeding incidents since August and this week, we brought him to see a specialist. Just to have some peace of mind and need to find the cause of his problem.

A relief to hear that nothing was serious. The specialist inserted a camera tube into both nostrils for inspection. Probably Jay rubbed his nose too frequent and too hard till he injured his inner skin so it bled. Or probably the haze caused the allergy reaction. He used to have a sensitive nose and always have frequent running nose. The specialist prescribed him a 1-week ointment to apply into his nostrils.

Since early this month, we are experiencing rains and strong winds here so we are able to see the beautiful blue sky once again.

Last Saturday under beautiful weather, I organised a potluck party in my clubhouse and invited few good friends to join in. Everyone brought their own food and I made some grilled chicken, potatoes and green salad for the potluck. Kids also had some splashing and spraying time in the pool.

My old car broke down on me on Monday so it stayed in workshop for few days. Don't know how much it would cost!

This morning, we woke up so early to have some sun shines and sweats. A rare occasion where we got to abandon our beds so early on a Saturday. Post on that coming up!

Okay, I guess I am ready to get back to my blogging routine. Have some scheduled posts to share with you, so stay tune!!

Give me a break

I am giving myself a mini break from blogging. No worries, I am not going to abandon my blog for long. It is just that I need a little breather now.

I have meant to write few scheduled posts yesterday and today but did not get down to doing them. Something caught up and I guess I will do them another day when my mind is clear.

Maybe I can get re-inspired and rejuvenated somehow away from the virtual world as I think I have been too absorbed in blogging lately. I felt I've lost something important in the real world.

A recent loss of someone in the family reflects on my thought about my priority. The world wouldn't stop turning when I blog or don't. I may have to put this at the backseat for a while. For now, I need a little time for myself and family.

So I am hoping someone would miss me while I'm gone. Lol. Will be back soon!

Walk for food

Never walked so far distance to get to one place for food before but I did it last Saturday!! And gosh, what a tiring walking we had, all of us.

In conjunction with the annual Sarawak Regatta, this year there is a food fair (Fiesta Makanan Sarawak) in Kuching Waterfront from 18 to 27 September. Where there is food, you bet I would be joining in the fun.

The participating stalls are promoting, displaying and selling local food as well as international food cuisine to the public.

We were there last Saturday afternoon. Parked our car in the car park building behind Yayasan Sarawak, then we walked to Plaza Merdeka and go through old courthouse to reach Kuching Waterfront! Did not want to squeeze in the traffic jam as well as the crowds in the evening as there was a live concert so we decided to go in the afternoon. Some shots that I took that afternoon..

Very Sarawak feel

This was the stall that I came here for!!

Refreshing drinks but quite scary looking at the colour of the sweet sour tamarind drink (right)

There was regatta going on that weekend so it was pretty packed. First time the boys walked along the Waterfront.

Of course we did not walked the whole stretch as it would be too tiring for everyone. Nevertheless we got our food.

An adventurous gastronomic walk we had that day.
