A day in the week

It was just another day, another week. This week is a honeymoon-ing week for Jay as no classes but he still went to school to practise for the graduation concert mext Friday.

So he was pretty happy as get to rehearsing and have fun.

Brought him to Twin Corner (near Paramount Hotel) for lunch after pick him from school on Tuesday. Hubby said the Chinese fried rice was good.

When it came, it did not look that appetizing to me but after took a spoon it was actually pretty good. Enough wok hei and the rice was fluffy and dry.

The great thing was they were pretty generous with the sliced sausages and salted fish. They did not even add much MSG so that was good thing.

Then we went home and I drank my cooling infused drink with cucumber, lime and lemon. Thanks to sharing from Azura, I started to drink this week. I add a bit of manuka honey to balance the sour taste.

I spent some time in afternoon packing our clothing. 2 big luggages and other stuff went into boxes and storage containers.

For dinner, my main dish was this corn pork rib soup.  Love the sweetness and goodness of this simple soup.

That was one typical day. Hope you guys enjoy reading my entry.

Weekend is here

Oooh! Saw this cute picture in google and I could not help but cooing over the kitten! Make me want to have a pet right now! A pet to pamper and taken care of but right now I have 3 "monkeys" at home, so no more room for another pet! ;)

Yay! It is almost Friday night! What is the plan? Used to look forward to Friday nights when I were single because weekend was around and time to unwind after a stressful week at work. I love to dress up for the weekends. Since the kids came along, every Friday nights were the same to me. In my pyjamas, playing and fighting in the beds are my Friday's activities now. ;)

However I am going to do something different this weekend. School holiday is around the corner. And I am planning something relaxing over the weekend. No teaser, so will update you later.

So, happy weekend, guys!

Made from scratch

Was thinking of this long bean pancake last week and on Sunday, I could not stand my craving any more so went to the market to get some long beans.

My favourite childhood pancake cooked by my mum. Long beans pancake. When she made this, everyone will be on the table helping themselves to few slices. My dad is the biggest fan of her pancake.

It was simple to make. With little ingredients, the pancakes were ready to eat in no time.

Here is my recipe for long beans pancake from scratch.

Just mix wheat flour, 3 strands of long beans (chopped), chopped dried prawns, 1 beaten egg, pinch of salt, dashes of light soy sauce, and some water. Mix to a nice batter; not too much flour or too watery.

For more fragrant smell, you can fry the long beans and dried prawns first before adding to the flour. A great tip from my friend.

Heat up the pan with some cooking oil. When it is hot, add in a scoopful of batter to the oil. Let it fry till bottom has turned golden brown.

Flip to the other side and with your spatula, press the pancake to flatten it to your desired thickness. The thinner, the better as it will be crispier.

Dish out once pancake is golden brown.

Serve warm. Eat like that or dipped into your favourite sauce. For me, I like it to be savoury. So light soy sauce is a great dipping.

Anyone want a bite?  ^^

Sharing

This is a place that you would least expect nice and reasonably priced food. After all, I would not be going there if not for my sil who brought me to check it out the other night.

I wonder if it is opened by the next door hotel, Phoenix Hotel and this no-name cafe is not easily missed with its spotlights blinking away. The walkway between HSBC building and this row of shops is been used as an open air seating area. Luckily no trees around otherwise we would be worried about birds flying and dropping "bombs" over us!

The night was cooling and windy. And they have a big tv to entertain the patrons. Surprisingly it was lighted well so we could see what we were putting into our mouths. Lol!

Long time I did not have ABC so I ordered this icy dessert that night. Look at the colours! Lovely but scary at the same time! Never mind, I do not have it all the time.

We ordered few dishes to share. That way we got to eat and taste more. After all, it is more fun to share food, don't you agree?

Satay! Malaysia's best street food. This was actually my boy's request and he finished all the chicken skewers by himself. RM0.50 per skewer. Only beef and chicken available that night. Pity they do not serve ketupat. I thought the meat was alright but the peanut sauce was so-so. My sil thought the peanut sauce was nice as full of crushed nuts.

My girl's fish and chip looked rather bland. Cannot expect nice Western food here. Only RM8.90 for this plate.

Okay, I have to admit that I am never tired of lamb but at RM11.90, this lamb chop was okay. Cannot complain much on this.

My BIL had this pork intestine soup with rice set for RM8. The soup was very peppery and good for warming the body on a cooling night. Sorry, I did not taste the chitterlings as I am not fond of innards but I did take a sip of the peppery soup.

Now, this dish fits me. We had this dry bak kut teh for sharing. I like spicy bak kut teh. Very good I thought to myself. Meat was tender and gravy was spicy.

Finally this was what we came here for. I found this famous Kuching-style o-chien (oyster pancake) here!! RM15 only for this XL-sized pancake. It was good. The pancake was still crispy even when it has cooled down. I like this crispier version more than wet type which can be goo-ey and chewy after it cools down. If only they add more oysters to it and not stingy with the dipping.

A good place for dinner or supper. I don't mind coming here again.

Miscellaneous Picture #28: Green around me

Something I got to see every day.

From the balcony when I wash my face and brush my teeth

And this jasmine tree which I can smell when wind blow to my direction

When I first arrived here, I noticed and curious about these red larvas at the side of the drains.

The lovely road stretch with trees flanking on both sides when going to baby sitter's house

While waiting for my girl to finish her school, I keep myself busy with counting the oranges on this tree.

Weekly review

Hi everyone! Another week has slipped from our grasp and here we are, another Sunday. The first Sunday of November. How has your week been? Hope it is a fabulous week. For us, it is a good week. Tired but good.

I have been deprived of sleep beginning of the week so most of the days, I were not in good mood. Some more waking up very early on Monday morning when I were only able to get a 4 hours sleep the night before was a torture!  On Monday I were basically a zombie going through the day!

Why Monday?

With her competing classmates

Jan had an English story-telling competition that day, so I had to bring her back to school after her lunch and shower as it started at 3pm. Of course, I stayed around to cheer for her during the competition. We did not stayed till the final contestants as there was over 30 students joining and she has to go to tuition. We only got to know the result the next day and she got 1st prize for her category! Well done, Jan.

Hubby was on his flying stint again, starting on Monday. He took a cab at 5am to go to airport to catch his plane to KL. He flew to Paris the following night. A tiring 13 hours plus flight, he tweeted back. He also sent back many beautiful photos of Paris and these are few of them. Can't wait to go there and see them myself some day. ^^

He has an enjoyable 1 week holiday sponsored by his company. We miss him but we will be seeing him tomorrow afternoon.

As for me, I managed to squeeze in a 2-hours for a facial on Wednesday morning. I even requested the lady to give more extra massage time on my face, head and shoulder after the facial. Felt great after that.

The weather has been very warm this week. There was heavy showers around noon but they could not wash away those heat! On Friday, it was worse with visible haze in the air!

And on one fine cooling evening I got to enjoy one of my comfort food. Seafood baked rice!

I know, it was very sinful but I do not have it all the times so it should be fine. I prefer my baked cheese rice with seafood as I love seafood.

Jay has finished his year end exam this week so I can breathe and relax a bit but the sister is going to have her exam next Thursday. I do not worry much about her as she is more independent and able to arrange her time and revise on her own.

You see, she still has a little time to spend on some craft. Recycling on used food can and manila cardboard and voila! A simple stationery case. An additional case to keep those pens and pencils. We do have a lot of stationery especially pencils. Jay tends to lose his pencils in school almost every day so I have no choice but to keep extra at home. ^^

That's it. Time to go to bed. Good night, everyone.
