Evening spent on chicken pizza

Some days I like simple meals. No rice but something easier to munch and yet filling. For instance, pizza!

Had bbq chicken pizza for dinner last night with my 2 kids. RM15.90 from Anson. Simple ingredients of capsicum, chicken, button mushroom and black olive with chrunchy crust.  Tasted good for a quick dinner. Of course we could not finish the whole thing, so take away the left over slices for supper.

A week later

It has been a week since he had the cast on his right arm. Still naughty and active as usual, the cast did not dampened his playfulness at all. One more week to go before he gets his cast off. I am sure he cannot wait for that day as he does look "handicapped" with one hand.

He has gone to school this week. Did not want him to stay at home because all he did was playing. Might as well go to school and learn something there. Otherwise he will have the "school withdrawal symptom" if absent for too long. At least he is happy to go to school now although he had a crying moment on Monday. I helped him in his school works since he cannot write with his right hand. He is happy as I am the one doing all those writing!

Anyway, I get back my "me time" when he has gone back to school. I can do my house chore at peace and go grocery shopping and market without dragging him along. And I get to finish up my last novel at hand this week. Worry not, I am going to get new novels soon. Will post on my new novels another day.

It has been few days I had my muesli for breakfast so once a while I will treat myself to a proper breakfast. Like laksa. I enjoy having my breakfast at home, in front of tv. *wink*

Honey Lemon

If I have a garden, the very first tree I am going to plant would be a lemon tree. Then the tree would grow and bear fruits so I can use in my cooking, for lemonade and natural air freshener. Okay, just a little day dreaming here but no harm done right?

Usually when I dine out, I would order fresh honey lemon for my drink.  I like the scent and taste of refreshing honey lemon which is a mix of sweet and sour. Great for my throat and good to drink on a warm day.
If I have this lemon tree at home, ....

Anyway, continue with my food adventure, I dropped by this Honey Lemon Cafe & Zakka last night. Have meant to check out this place for months but did not manage too. I think it used to be called a different name then?

If you are wondering what does Zakka mean, I got the interpretation from Wikipedia. Zakka (from the Japanese 'zak-ka'(雑貨)or 'many things') is a fashion and design phenomenon that has spread from Japan throughout Asia. The term refers to everything and anything that improves your home, life and appearance.

It was my first time there last night, so the waiter was happily introducing his food menu to us. It is a fusion cafe, so they have oriental food, snacks to Western. After we put our order, we were left to roam around.

They have a corner of merchandise, mostly for girls.

They have stuff from accessories, gels, potpourri to handbags.

Their bags corner.  Not my kind of taste!  *wink*

My SIL ordered its red bean dessert, which tasted alright.  Not too sweet, but if they could add a bit more coconut milk to it, it would be nicer.
My kids shared this fried rice, which fit for 2 persons.  Very huge portion. The fried rice was good, enough "wok hei".

No, I did not ordered my usual honey lemon drink because I wanted carrot milk juice.  High in beta-carotene.  *wink*

My SIL had this baked cheesy chicken rice.  Look at their "over-presented" baked chicken rice!  I think they should omit the shredded cucumber and cabbage, as it over-whelming the dish.  The rice was alright but the cheese was not so "cheesy" enough as it did not melt into the rice.  So this dish fell flat in taste.

I were thinking of no-rice dinner, so I ordered its chicken chop with mushroom sauce.  A bit disappointment for me as the chicken chop was not well marinated.  Rather bland and the mushroom sauce was not so great. The coleslaw was too sour, as they added too much lemon in the coleslaw.

The place looks like a good place to hang out but different story for its food.

Maybe the next time I drop by here, I will try its local dish such as nasi lemak or nasi ayam penyet.  Both dishes look delicious in the picture.  But I guess I got to try them out to know how good they are, right? Another time then!

That little anime world

After the rain on Sunday, hubby suggested a steamboat dinner at this Japanese restaurant. This interesting restaurant is next to Bistecca Bistro. If you are wondering why it is called an animate restaurant, let me show you why!

First glance from outside, it was rather boring and plain. Nothing unusual. And it did not look like a Japanese restaurant at all!! More Chinese setting to me.

But once you were inside, you felt like you were transported to a different world. The anime world. I am not a fan of anime series, but this little restaurant gave me a thrill to see all those comic strips sticking on those exhaust hoods. And the lovely wall decors too, which include some spear heads and masks.

Another picture of the interior. Don't you feel curious and want to catch a glimpse of the anime comic strips on the hoods?

The kids were happily posing for me here. I liked this anime heads erection on the wall. Feel like a mini Mount Rushmore here.

Ok, here come the best part. The food!

I started with the kids' meal (RM9.90) and Konoha Omelette (RM7.90). In both omelette were the fried rice. It tasted alright.

Next was the ingredients for the steamboat. This yummy plate was served and ready to be cooked. We choose Kimuchi steamboat for 3 persons as we invited my sil and her hubby over.

What I love most was their thinly sliced bacons. Just dipped and swayed them into the hot steamboat for few seconds, and quickly ate them with their special chili sauce! Super delicious!

I were not sure what soup did hubby ordered but it was a bit of sweet and spicy. Something like a mild kimchi soup. It tasted great anyhow.

Look at my bacon! I lost count of how many I ate that night.

Hubby also ordered this bbq set for RM7. Too dry for me, I opted for the steamboat more.

Chris, this is for you! I know you are a big fan of Japanese food. You would love this ramen here as you get to choose your own noodle and soup for your ramen.

Hubby has this soy sauce and pork soup for his ramen. Look at the chuncky pork belly on top.

My bil had this ramen pork bone soup and it came out like this. Not bad too.

Overall our dinner cost us RM156 plus drinks. And did I mentioned the green tea is free flow; you ask for refill! Great steamboat as you no need to worry about sweat as it is air con restaurant. We spent more than an hour there and the kids were behaved. Of course thanks to games that they able to sit still.

Weekend Menu # 65: On request

Hubby is very busy flying in and out as he has started his new job this month and same time still managing the Sibu branch. 2 jobs at a time. Salary is the same, but more workloads. By October, he will pass the Sibu branch manager position to the next guy and station in Miri. So once a while he will be flying to Sibu over the weekend. This week, he will be in Miri and Labuan.

So he will request me to cook certain dishes when he is at home. How could I not cook for him? *wink* Last weekend, he was craving for pek ting yok chicken soup (8 treasure herbs chicken soup). So I just went to the Chinese medicine hall and get a packet of the ready-packed herb for RM9 and cooked it on Saturday evening.
Boiled the herbs for an hour or so before added in the kampung chicken

I do not really like the smell and taste of this herb soup, so I gave it a pass. But I did taste a bit of this fruit. Yeap, it is the season!! O-ka-na (or local called it, dabai). This yummy black olive is from Kapit, the best of all.

Miscellaneous Picture # 24: random me

A short post tonight.  Nothing specific but random pictures here.

Had done some touching up to my hair highlight few days ago. Got to get myself pretty this month, don't you think? *wink*

Jamie is going to be 11 months old in few days time. For his 1st birthday, we are going to celebrate with my parents

No, I did not cook this but I love a nice bubur cha cha. I had this in Thompson Corner. Yummy and creamy, not too sweet. Just nice for my tastebud.

Anyone know what plant is this? I am curious as I never seen this fruit before. Don't you think that fruit on the left looks like a fat green caterpillar?

The elbow + sweet treat

Jay's elbow is recovering and noticed that the arm was not straight. He did not want to use the arm sling wrap so probably that is why the recovery is slow and his arm is bent. Read our story in hospital here.

He was supposed to go back to school today but he cried and begged me to bring him to hospital instead. Lol. So today I brought him back for follow up and requested the specialist to check on his elbow again as he was unable to bend it.

Can see the difference? Day 3 after the first re-aligment done on his elbow

The verdict? Confirmed the bone was dislocated again. The solution? A cast for his elbow. Read our 2nd visit to hospital here. We were discharged at around 315pm just now.

He got his 3rd arm sling. 1st was Tweety bird, 2nd was Doreamon and now, a Winnie The Pooh!

On Wednesday, I brought him and his sister to Anson for dinner. And the kids requested for a sundae so I obliged to their request. It was a warm evening so I guess it was fine to treat them to a chocolate sundae.

And as usual, Jay would always be the first to taste so the sister got to wait patiently for her turn. Both hardly could finish the sundae. My kids seldom eat ice cream or taking cold food or drink, so it takes them quite a long time to finish them. The chocolate sundae melt fast before I could helped myself to it!

For starter, we had the house salad with grilled chicken. I would prefer grated parmesan cheese rather than cheddar here. I quite like the Italian salad dressing they used. The sour, sweet vinaigrette dressing.

Next was my Buffalo wings. The chicken wings were deep fried yet they still have their juiciness and succulent texture with a hint of tabasco! A tantalizing spicy snack for me. The dipping was so so; taste just like tartar sauce to me. Nothing special about it.

As for the kids, they have their usual dish; the breaded fish with fries. At first, I thought of ordering their fish parmigiani for the kids but my girl was very particular about sauce on top of her fish so ended up just a plain breaded fish fillet.

Overall our dinner was RM29.40 plus drinks. No rice dinner but we still went home with full tummies! And the kids always love no-rice dinner once a while. A real treat for them.
