Since the steamboat dinner we threw on 2nd day of CNY, we have not have it and our hot pot has been sitting idly since then.
One fine Sunday when I were suddenly lost on what to cook for dinner, I suggested to my family on having a steam boat. Everyone readily agreed as long as they could forgo rice. My family. Hard to satisfy everyone when it comes to food but no one oppose to the idea of steaming hot pot that day. *wink wink*
So we went to the nearby supermarket to grab some ingredients and we were off to a simple, healthy and delicious dinner.
I turned on the electric cooker, let my chicken soup cooked. Just a cube of chicken stock and cut chicken drumstick did the trick for my simple broth.
While the pot was cooking, I prepared my ingredients. Less than 5 minutes, my platters were ready to be tossed into the boiling pot.
We have this chewy Swiss brown mushrooms which give some earthy flavour to the chicken soup. And that was basically as close as we could get to eat vegetable that evening! Lol.
Our other platters include this processed food such fish balls, fish rolls and seafood tofu.
The kids' favourite was this plate of sausage and prawns.
The real meat was this beef shabu-shabu as well as...
Of course, we still have some carbo in our diet so we had 2 different types of noodles as we could not agree on one type.
Jan: Mum, could you cook noodle for me?
Me : Yes, dear.
Jan: Mum, when I grow up, I want to cook for you.
Hmm, that was a nice thought of my filial girl. I never thought of that when I were her age. Not that I were disrespect to my parents back then. Just the thought of cooking never passed through my mind as I were not that girly when I were young.

Yum! Yummmm!!!! My girl and I were just talking about it that day. Maybe we'll have that during the long National Day weekend.
There's a new place here now - also opposite the old Sing Kwong - Signature Hotpot - they say HK steamboat - dunno what difference there is. Yet to go and check it out.

I have a steamboat pot at home but only used it once during my housewarming. Haha. Maybe I'll dig it out from the cabinet and use it sometime. Your steamboat looks delish!
