October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

According to the WHO, more than 1.2 million women get the new diagnosis of breast cancer every year in the world. Breast cancer claims the top position as the leading cause of deaths from cancer among women aged between 40 and 55 years. It can occur at any stage as alarmingly, it affect women below age of 30. It is not a women issue as men can get breast cancer too.

Prevention is still the best weapon, so do a monthly self-examination.

What changes should we look and feel for?
•Changes in size or shape.
•Changes in skin texture such as puckering or dimpling.
•Inverted nipple.
•A lump or thickening of breast tissue.
•Redness or a rash on the skin/around the nipple.
•Discharge from one or both nipples.
•Constant pain in breast or armpit.
•Swelling in armpit/around collarbone

For women aged 20 to 40 years old, arrange a clinical examination every 3 years and for those 40 years old and above, annual examination and mammogram are recommended.
