PappaRich in The Podium

Only recently did I went to this franchise eatery in The Podium. It opened sometimes end of last year. The first PappaRich in Kuching.

PappaRich in The Podium was visible from Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, as it was located at the very right corner of the front row of shop lots. The interior was tastefully decorated, nice place for a family meal, breakfast, tea break and gathering with friends.

Extensive selection of local, Asian and a western dishes to choose from, so there is something for everyone.
Longan tong sui RM6.50

Temperature has been rising and one could feel the heat. So this lovely cooling longan tong sui was something I looked forward to.

Hot milo RM6.30

My girl went for hot milo as she was still recovering from her sickness. She also ordered this egg pudding dessert which was nice and sweet with sofa and gula melaka.

Nasi Lemak with curry chicken was my choice for dinner. Nice and fragrant, I quite enjoy it especially the anchovies sambal.

Nasi Lemak RM18.50

My girl opted for nasi goreng kampung with egg and chicken wing. Big portion and it took quite an effort from her to finish her food.

Kampung fried rice with egg and chicken. Wing RM19.90

The boys had takeaway of Hainan fried chicken rice. RM18.50 each.

A drive to the beach

We had a drive to the beach when my sil and her children were here last week.  We only drove over when the rain had stopped in the afternoon. Along the way, we could enjoyed the nice misty view of the countryside.

Even Mount Santubong was almost covered by clouds. Nevertheless, it was a beautiful and calm view to enjoy in.

We went to Sarawak Geopark beach, which was free for everyone. Just a short stroll, enjoy ice-cream cone and some photo taking before heading back home.

Nice weather to walk in, it was a very breezy day.

Too windy that red flag alert for the sea, so no one was allowed to go into the water.

Go Fun Kee

I can't remember the last time I had bak kut teh here but since its renovation and upgrading last year, it was our first visit late last month.

The nearest Go Fun Kee Bak Kut Teh branch to our place, we had dine-in on Boxing Day.

Actually hubby and mil had made few visit to this outlet but mostly for its tau fu fah (soya pudding)

So, one of the weekday last week, we went there for early dinner since hubby was craving for its bak kut teh. After all the renovation, the place looked cool and chic with the striking and catchy tiles and decoration. There is even one instagrammable corner with that Vietnamese vibe in the shop. The lanterns, the table, etc.

Totally different and more vibrant compared to their previous concept. The menu is mostly the same, so not much changes to it. At least you can now enjoy the comfort of having your meal in air conditioned room unlike in previous setting.

We were settling with one serving of yue tiaw (Chinese cruller); that was a must order when we were having bak kut teh.  Just love to have it soaked in the broth and enjoy it with the flavor of the herbs.

Our appetizer of soft cold beancurd topped with century eggs.  More of hubby and mil's appetizer as Jan and I hardly touched this dish. Not a fan of century egg.

First claypot to be served on our table was this drunk chicken soup.  Totally not our cup of tea!! Too much of Chinese wine in it that we did not enjoyed it.  This dish reminded me of confinement food.

On the other hand, their pork liver soup was rather tasty and flavourful with generous ginger and cooking wine in it.Tasted better and edible than the chicken soup.

Next was the dry bak kut teh.  I used to enjoy this dish in the past.  Somehow the taste wasn't as I remember but it was still flavourful and tasty.  My mil also prefer this dry and spicier version.

Lastly was the soup version of bak kut teh. Really great to have on a rainy day.  We ordered big portion for 4 of us.

Chill out

In a blink of an eye, it is December. And Christmas is falling upon us soon without you realising it.

No, we didn't put up Christmas tree this year.  It has been 4 years since we set up the tree. Somehow as the kids grow bigger, they aren't so into those things anymore.

So no harm for me to admire other Christmas trees when I see them. Just the other night, hubby and I went to this bistro in Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce called Anglers Bistro. We had a chill out there, relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere. The Christmas tree was pretty, giving that festive vibe in the bistro.

I had mojito while hubby had his usual drink, beer. I prefer a lighter cocktail so this minty and refreshing cocktail is my favourite.

We also shared this fish n chip, where they used Cobia fish. Never tasted Cobia fish before but this fried fish nugget was delicious and went well with their homemade tartar sauce. Definitely will order this again.

Saturday night @ The Junk

Hubby, Jan and I went for a rare Saturday night out last week. A treat for my girl who requested for fish n chips. She was the top scorer for both biology and English subjects in her last school examination so hubby decided to reward her with a good dinner.

And our choice of venue? The Junk in Wayang Street. Oh my, I checked my archive and noticed that the last visit was back in 2012 which was more than 10 years ago.

The place is more or less the same as I remembered it. Its decoration and collectible are still intriguing and interesting.

Back to our dinner, we started off with this soft shelled crabs salad. It was good and we really enjoyed it.

Next my order of lamb shank came. The portion did looked smaller than it was in the past but it still tasted good, tender and flavourful with the tomato based sauce and side salad.

The fish n chip my girl had been waiting for. Although not the classic British fish n chip, this breaded fish was okay for her but rather dry.

Lastly we shared this mushroom soup with half a dozen garlic bread.

Total bill for our dinner. After a good dinner, we went to The Spring mall to buy a gift for Jan. Meant to buy her a new phone after her SPM (next year) but we bought it in advance since her current one wasn't working well.

Colour for Double Happiness

Double Happiness Cafe in Green Heights is not a coffee shop we would patronise frequently as it is far from my place. Usually when we are in Green Heights, we would go to the Sin Chong Choon which is a stone throw away for its well known 3 layers teh c peng special and Sarawak laksa.

This Double Happiness Cafe is easily spotted for its bright, catchy pink colour. At least they didn't painted red for the colour of double happiness. Lol.

Not fully packed on the morning the 4 of us were there. My mil and I had the same thing, that was Sarawak laksa. RM8 for normal bowl, which was rather good and appetizing.

My kolo mee lover had the kolo mee RM5.50. He requested for red so you could see the red colour in the noodle. And oh, I spotted the crispy pork lard on top too!!

My hubby ordered kompia and sio bee for his breakfast. He was on diet in case you wondered why he ate so little.

3 pieces of kompia and 5 Kuching sio bee for around RM11.00.

To Bako for lunch

It was 2nd day of Hari Raya last Sunday. Weather was nicer as we had rain the night prior. So the morning was breezy and cloudy.

So hubby suggested for a special drive to the beach or countryside for lunch. We initially wanted to go to Buntal but luckily I made a call first. The restaurant was closed so we diverted to Bako after confirming that the one in Bako was opened for lunch.

Matang hill

We navigated from Matang to Demak Laut and then to Bako. It was a nice drive as lesser cars on the road. Soon, we reached Bako village and found a good parking spot before walked over to Bako Seafood Restaurant.

We didn't managed to book a table over the phone but we got a table as walk-in. Anyway, we placed our order without delay and soon, the food was served.

We used to enjoy its deep fried oyster balls in the past so this time, no exception as we had that as well.

The Pacific white clam and fish balls soup was next. It was good and tasty!! Big, springy fish balls with the taste of the sea from the clams.

The curry bamboo clams were nice and meaty as well. The thick curry gravy went so well with white rice.

We also had their signature deep fried seafood beancurds but beware, it was hot!! Nice to take with or without its spicy dipping.

Steamed prawns with egg were great but by now, we were already pretty stuffed and can't finish this dish.  So, we had a takeaway for the remaining prawns.

And also this fried 'ngor hu' (thread fin fish), we had to bring home for our dinner that evening.

Overall, our delightful seafood lunch was RM212 plus drinks. By then the place was packed with patrons. We quickly made our move and drove back to Kuching.
