Lunch on the eve

Shop is taking a 3-days break for CNY. Our first CNY at the shop, so we had a proper cleaning and fire crackers playing on Thursday. Our CNY holiday is from 9 to 11th, so we are re-opening our business tomorrow.

Our reunion lunch on the eve of Chinese New Year at home started around 2 pm.

Our reunion meal this year was more protein based with meats served on our reunion table.

My mil cooked this lovely braised wild boar meat with lemongrass. Super tasty, super nice. The meat was given by a relative who arrived from Kapit last weekend.

A friend gave us this big white pomfret so we simply having it steamed.

Just add some fish sauce, garlic and ginger, the fish was ready for steaming. It turned out to be lovely and delicious.

Another seafood was this lobster that hubby bought not long ago. Just simple boil was good to preserve its freshness and sweetness.

Not all was cooked at home, for example a pack of RM40 roasted pork from Old Bank Cafe in the morning.

And roasted duck that was sold in  Bao Xiang BBQ shop in MJC. Supposed to be RM65 for one whole duck but it was sold for RM70 on the eve.

I did the chopping since they don't chop on the eve for you. I chopped half of the duck for our lunch while the remaining half I kept in freezer.

The kids love ngoh hiang (spring roll) so we bought a pack of frozen mini ngoh hiang and deep fried ourselves. Never could go wrong with Jakar mini ngoh hiang.

To balance up our intake, my mil cooked stir fried mixed vegetables. She served green peas, red pepper, baby corns and leeks in one dish.

So what was on your reunion lunch or dinner?? It is still not late to wish everyone "Happy and Blessed Lunar New Year"! Gong xi fa cai!!

Christmas shopping

It is that time of the year again. Christmas shopping. No matter what, we must spend some times at the mall, checking out the Christmas vibes and offers. One of our favourite places to go to is this shopping mall.

It was our off day early this week, so we took the opportunity to walk around and relax with the kids.

We spent almost 2 hours at the mall, shopping for clothing. Everyone including my mil got what we wanted. Quite a crowd at the mall so we did not dilly dally around. After bought some clothing at 2 outlets, and some Christmas presents for my nieces and nephew, we adjourned to the food court for lunch.

My usual when ever I visit this food court. Nasi Arab stall. Went for its mixed biryani nasi Arab with lamb shank curry (RM36). Super filling as I couldn't finish the lamb leg by myself.

We didn't really checked out the main concourse Christmas decoration as more crowds coming in. And with Covid cases going up in recent weeks, we decided to make a move. There was a Wonka themed setting in one area.

These were the photos I managed to take. At least we got to see some Christmas tree. Lol.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday!!

Happy Mid-Autumn!

It is Mid-Autumn today, so wishing everyone, a Happy Mid-Autumn Festival.

Not much of a celebration this year, we did bought a box of mooncakes from Cosway and a friend gave us a lovely mooncake set. So we are going to enjoy them slowly.

To uphold the tradition and festive mood, yesterday we went to Batu Kawa Old Town for its mooncake festival bazaar. This was my second time visit during this festive to this old town; first was many years ago when the kids were really small. This round we brought our mil along.

We were fortunate to find a parking space but need to walk a distance to reach the town. We didn't mind the walk as we could enjoyed the waterfront view.

It didn't take long when we reached the temple. Many people were offering prayers there. We passed by the temple and took some shots before walked further to the old shops.

The bazaar started right at the entrance of the temple and the streets were packed with stalls and people even though it was not even 6pm.

Any moon sighting from your side tonight?? I wonder if we could see moon tonight but it has been good weather and clear sky after rain in the morning. We did see a big round yellow moon at Batu Kawa!! With a cute rabbit on top of it!!

Some stalls and food shots I took along the street. The kids sure enjoyed themselves and indulge in those sinful snacks!! Luckily it isn't that often they do that. Lol.

We spent almost an hour there, bought some snacks, dessert and grilled fish home.  By the time we left, the small road were jammed.

Simpler dinner

First of all, Gong Xi Fa Cai and Happy Chinese New Year to all!!

A pause to my holiday post, it is time to usher the Year of the Rabbit. It was simpler affair this year, unlike what we had for reunion dinner last year.

Thanks to my mil, she helped me with the cooking. And hubby's niece who is staying with us for few nights; she helped with the reunion dinner yesterday.

This year we had yee sang. We bought this prepacked yee sang and hubby did the preparation.

The yee sang after he had done with it. Pretty nice and appetizing; we enjoyed it very much.

We bought one roasted chicken and 300g of roasted pork belly from Old Bank Cafe in the afternoon.

My mil did most of the cooking with the help of our niece while I was busy cleaning with hubby and the kids.

Her fish maw with 'tai ping'(peace) egg soup was very good and nostalgic as my late fil loved this dish.

One of hubby's catch last year was used up for the reunion dinner. We can't finish the whole fish so cut it into half and steamed the head for the dinner.

Beef rendang cooked by my mil few days earlier; she heated it up for the dinner.

Stir fried plum sauce prawns also made onto the table.

Marinated chicken wings from previous dinner; my mil fried them up.

This Pacific clam was cooked and gave by a friend of hubby.  Very spicy and I only took one bite.

And that completed our reunion dinner. And as for this morning, a must to have chicken mee suah soup for breakfast.

Wishing everyone good health, prosperity and joy in the Year of the Rabbit.

Christmas

We made stops in few malls in Kuala Lumpur during our stays. Window shopping, CNY clothing shopping and checking out on the Christmas decoration. This post is a compilation of the Christmas decoration in the mall. The Christmas vibes were nicer and more festive with bigger scale of decoration and efforts put.

And since tomorrow is Christmas Day , I would like to wish everyone "A Merry Christmas!" And hope you enjoy my Christmas photo compilation.
