Oozing golden croissant

I finally got to taste the Molten Salted Egg Yolk Croissant! And it is from a moving kitchen.

Yes. You heard it right. I tried the Hungry Dino food truck on Thursday evening after dropped off Jan and Jay for their Taekwondo class. A friend whose girl was also in the class, joined me to check out the food truck.

The food truck was parked right in front of Alliance Bank in Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho. Opens from 730pm daily at that location; their croissants are selling like hot cakes.

We waited quite long for our croissants. The girl said 10 minutes, but it was definitely more than 10 minutes waiting time for us. There was crowd waiting for their food in front of us so we did not mind as we chatted and looked at what they were doing in the truck.

Look at their Molten Salted Egg Yolk Croissants! So flaky, so crispy. I had it after the kids finished their taekwondo which by then it has cool down.

RM6.00 per piece

I should have warmed it up. I guess that was the reason why the creamy, buttery and savoury molten did not really oozing underneath the croissant when I cut it open. Nevertheless, it still flowed, slowly.

I love it. It was good. It was flaky even it was not warm. And guess what? My Jay finished up the croissant for me. He ate most of it. Must be hungry after the taekwondo. Haha.

If got chance I would like to try their pasta and sanwiches. Another day to catch up with the moving kitchen.

Search at the back

The row of the shops opposite Tua Pek Kong temple. Main Bazaar.

If you are looking for a local food stall at night, you might need to search at the back of this row of shops. There is this particular shop that open at night, facing the side of Old Bazaar Cafe. The shop is buzzing with people and noise and smell of delicious food.

And you could drive through this back lane and order your food and come back later to collect and pay for it. How convenient.

*courtesy of my friend*

A friend recommended me to try the curry chicken rice here. I couldn't remember whether I have been here before but if I did, I think there was this one time but many many years ago.

It sells kolo mee and chicken rice every night, but the curry mix rice is only available on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday night.

However that Saturday evening when we were here, they do not cook rice and no curry that evening so we were left with only noodle. Since we were there and found a very nice parking spot, might as well we had our dinner.

While waiting for our noodle, we saw this tourist mini bus passes by. Glad I managed to snap before it drove away.

Our kolo mee. It was good. And so was this bowl of kiaw soup (meat dumpling soup).

We seated outside right next to the stall. There are seats in the shop but we opted to sit outside since it was not that warm to do so. And we could catch the buzz and passing cars as well as enjoy the night sky.
Across the road

Curry rice? Another night then. Not our lucky night but we did enjoyed the noodle for dinner.

Good ol' Batu Kawa noodle

It was a Saturday morning when we went to Batu Kawa old town for breakfast. I know, it is not our usual breakfast spot and it is the other way out of the city. It is totally out of the way! We hardly come here!  But there was a reason that morning to drop by so we thought of having breakfast there before proceed with our intention.

The Batu Kawa kolo mee with meatballs is on the right side (blue roof)

This is the famous Batu Kawa Hakka kolo mee with meatballs which is right next to the roundabout of the old settlement. It is believed that the 1st Hakka immigrants came and settled in this old town many many years ago.

The famous kolo mee stall used to operate in the community hall (red roof) before they built a smaller roadside stall right next to it (blue roof).

The Hakka operators were friendly and ready to serve you.  The place was very fast filled up within a minute and luckily we were early that morning so we would not need to wait that long.

Ooohh. I spotted these old crates of bottled flavoured drinks. Green is banana flavour while the red one is cherries. No, none of us ordered them.

Here was my bowl of kolo mee. If you are wondering what Hakka kolo mee should be, it is usually just minced meat and lots of spring onion on top of the noodle. Of course like any other food, they evolved and changed to fit the local taste and time.

Meat balls and char siew were added in for added taste. I like this old school kolo mee. And we did ordered a bowl of meatballs soup to go with our noodles.

We didn't really need this chilli vinegar dipping for the meatballs but it was nice and taste good.

And my day must started off with a glass of teh c peng. I was expected the original teh c peng but it came like this. With the gula apong. Like those 3-coloured teh c peng. The gula apong was too sweet to my liking.

Life lately

Good morning!! Have your breakfast yet??

I am sharing some salad and pull pork sandwich with hubby. Got a pack of crispy pata flew all the way from Sibu last  night so I used some of the meat for the salad and sandwich. At the same time, I packed hubby's lunch to bring to his office before he is driving to Sri Aman later.

Life is busy as a homemaker and mother of 3 should be.

Most days, it could be pretty routine and boring but I've picked up on Chinese drama, so have been busy chasing the drama in between.

Lately, the 2 older kids have started a new class. Taekwondo class. Currently held in my clubhouse hall so it is convenient for me to drop them over. Both kids seemed to like and enjoy the class. A little bit of fun, sweat and exercise (plus a strict master teaching them).

And I bought them the gis to wear last week. I think they look cute in it. *wink*

Sunny and warm most of the time. Have not been having many downpours lately. Good for the laundry and gardening. But some day I would like to enjoy the beautiful rain and what it brings. Sigh!

The one person that may not be enjoying the humid weather would be my boy. His skin gets drier and when he sweats a lot, he tends to scratch and itch. But thanks to my mum, I got a big bundle of this natural remedy for Jamie's dry skin.

Aloe vera. And I am starting to plant a pot of aloe vera at home so I would have plenty of supply of aloe vera for dessert and soup, and natural remedy.

A taste of Melaka

On this rare day when my sis whatsapp-ed me for lunch as she was off. So after few minutes of whatsapp-ing, we (me and Jamie) went out to pick her and mum for lunch. At that point, we were still undecided on where to go.

First, we made a round in Brighton Square. Not many outlets opened as it was a Monday. Then, mum suggested to go to this Melaka Favourite for chicken rice balls as she has never been there before. And so was my sister.

So off we went to RH Plaza for our Melaka lunch. It has been many months since I came here and the lady boss who hailed from Melacca, still remembered me. Her friendly demeanor is one reason I like to come here.

After a brief chit-chatting and placing our order with her, our food came in no time.

We ordered 2 balls for each of us while the chicken portion is for 2. More than enough for us.

My lunch companions were commenting the rice was nice, not too dry and tasty. Nothing to shout about the chicken but both loved the chilli dipping which was spicy, and sweet.

We also have this stir-fried lady fingers (RM5.00) as side dish. So much for RM5.00 but we enjoyed it very much.

I wanted cendol on this warm morning, so I ordered 2 kinds of ingredients for my cendol.  Just the green cendol and red beans. They gave us a separate cup of gula Melaka so we could add in the syrup according to our preference.

My sis' cendol looked more beautiful and colourful than mine.  Hers was 3 kinds; namely cendol, red beans and cincai (grass jelly).

My satisfied lunch companions. Happy with the food and full to the max! Both got the taste of Melaka's famous food here.

The taste and history

Continue from my previous post, we went to Kim Joo for our breakfast. It was slightly after 10am but the place was almost packed. Luckily we got the last table available.

As usual, I had my Kim Joo's noodle with cheng soup. How I missed them!! After a long time, they still taste as good as they are. Yum yum.

The cheng soup (with innards, meat balls, fish balls, pork belly, beansprouts, salted mustard and seaweed) never failed to warm my tummy. Sweet, sour and salty in one shot! Nice to take on a cold morning like what we had that day.

After our satisfying breakfast, we walked back to Kuching Waterfront. Since we were there, we decided to visit the Chinese History Museum. Believe me, I had never been there till that day!!

Entrance is free and it opens every day. So after registered ourselves, we watched a short documentary of how Chinese immigrants first came to Borneo and settled down in Sarawak.

After the documentary, we walked around the museum. I were sure I were not supposed to take any shots but here was what I (secretly) snapped.

I like this old feather duster. Very handy as a cane too.

That concluded our morning activity on Sarawak Independence Day. A nice way to spend this memorable day.

Tourist in my city

It was Sarawak Independence Day. 22 July.

We spent our morning in the old part of the city.  I felt like a tourist in my own city. We covered a small part of Kuching Waterfront and Main Bazaar.

It was a cold and windy morning as it rained the night before.  A very nice day for a walk. We parked our car in front of Hilton Hotel and walked along the riverbank. The kids enjoyed the river view, gloomy sky, saw some sampans and boat-alike in the river and what across the riverbank.

It wasn't jam when we were in the city regardless of the Sukma games and ceremony of the Sarawak Day. We did bumped into traffic polices who busy directing traffic around.

From the Kuching Waterfront, we went across the road to Main Bazaar.  Most souvenir shops were opened that day so we went to one and have a look around.  So many souvenirs to see and choose from.

After a short stop here, we walked to Kai Joo lane which is behind the Main Bazaar for our breakfast in one of our favourite Chinese coffee shops.
