Brought them home

When talk about chicken congee, one of the best in Kuching has got to be from here. Kuching chicken porridge in Jalan Nanas!

It is not visible from main road, so you need to drive to the back lane of the road. The shop is a corner shop, which is in the same row with Bombay Spices. Only opens nightly from 7pm Monday to Saturday, their porridge and chicken dishes sold like hot cakes. Or maybe because they did not prepare much. By 830pm, their porridge and steamed chicken could be all sold out!!

Their chicken congee may looked plain but believe me! It was thick, silky smooth and fragrant with generous spread of shredded chicken. The light soy sauce added for extra taste is good enough but some would prefer to dash a bit of white pepper into their congee before digging in.

And never forget to order its steamed yellow chicken. It is great and nice to dip into its chilli vinegar dipping and go so well with the congee.

That was my comfort food during my childhood time. Used to operate in the food centre opposite Shang Di Temple in Carpenter Street before they moved here many years ago. It has been a family business and the congee still taste the same after all those years. I heard that they serve more dishes now (such as mushroom chicken feet and ginger chicken) besides their famous steamed chicken.

On one fine evening, we went there and bought the porridge home as the place was packed. Thankfully we were able to have its steamed chicken as well.

When my hubby wanted to buy half portion of the steamed chicken, the uncle told him that he couldn't do so otherwise he wouldn't have enough to sell to other customers. Lol. So we have to be contented with the portion that he sold us.

We brought home 4 packs of chicken porridge and a pack of steamed chicken for RM21.

So we could enjoyed them in the comfort of our little space. Talking about reminiscing my childhood's comfort food.

Reminds me the porridge near my office. The 'Kakak' stall had closed.
I love the look on your porridge. Looks creamy and I bet it's delicious too.

Looks good. Thick and smooth! I am not a fan of porridge but when the boys are unwell, this is our staple food :(

If I cook chicken porridge, I will use drumstick, chuck the whole thing in, with carrots, and boil.. But I still prefer pork+peanuts+dried oysters+hamtan+peitan porridge..I can eat 5 bowls of that!

Wow! I remember this place! :)

I went before and when my friend said porridge I was very dubious. However, when I saw a line of people before the shop opened I thought a bit more positively. It was quite good for porridge. I'll love to eat this again, the memories...
