Weekdays as a solo mom

I love it!  Seriously, I do.  Or maybe you could say that I am used to it by now.

I have been a solo parent for slightly over a month now. It is both tiring and mind-blowing yet satisfying experience for me as a mom of three.

Of course, I do miss the big man around the house and it tends to be quieter and lonelier without another adult to talk to, but somehow I feel that we have grown closer.  Like they said, absence makes the heart grows fonder.

We spend more quality family times and talk more when we are together on weekends. It is more satisfying and happier, I personally think of it.

Other reasons why I enjoy my weekdays as a solo mom:
  1. The super king-sized bed feels more spacey and comfy without the big man snuzzling in. Jamie is still sleeping with us on the big bed.
  2. I cook simpler food for me and my kids.  Less stress and headache thinking of the menu every day.
  3. I have pc all to myself on weekday.  I prefer writing posts on pc than tapping on my smart phone.
  4. Less argument over tv. Even among the kids, each has their own favourite channels. 2 tvs at home is not enough!
  5. Less hassle over another human being. Hubby could be more demanding than the 3 little human beings; need to iron, clean and arrange stuff for him.
Hubby would be having few weeks of travelling so we would be seeing less of him this month. Meantime I will try to take care of the house and kids as best as I could.

Hubby works half day on Saturday, so I'm used to it already. When kids still small, I never like it, but now, the kids are bigger, they do their own things, and I always have the table (and wifi) if I need my sanity/me time/cooking time.. Just give them the tablet, and they'll be happy and quiet..

Good for you! You get used to it, I guess...and anyway, many guys aren't much help - just leave everything to the wives. My cousin's hubby - I congratulated him as his daughter scored straight A's in the PMR...and he said, surprised, "Hah? My girl Form 3 already kah?" LOL!!!

Still, sometimes, it is good to have someone around, backup. Well, you have your family members there, like you had your SIL here so shouldn't be much of a problem compared to living somewhere all on your own...and weekends together would be something to look forward to, a welcome change - like when my girl comes home from the jungle.

Sounds like the life! I don't know how mothers do it. I have no children and I don't even have time to clean my own house. It's a pigsty unless I hire cleaning services.

As someone who's not married, I love my alone time. It's great to just be able to recharge and relax by yourself.

Married or not married, we all need our personal, private times. Somehow we wives have to adjust when the partner has to work away from home. But we too look forward to have them around the house even though it means more work for us. You are doing a great job as a solo mom. Continue your good work, Rose!

My husband's job doesn't really require him to travel so I'm seeing him everyday. Maybe I should suggest to him to go do business travel once a month or something. :P

Taking care of your kids on your own is definitely not a walk in a park and it is the unconditional love that you have for your kids and hubby that keeps you going.
You're such a strong woman and totally salute you in your strength. Your husband definitely appreciates your help.

much love,

Not having hubby around at times is definitely a blessing sometimes... just like Chicago's song... "Everybody needs a little time away... from each other..... Even lovers need a holiday... far away from each other..." and it makes us appreciate each others company more too

I think it's always healthy for the partners to have a little break from each other. Otherwise you start taking each other for granted. More excitement all around!

It is really hard without the presence of husband but you did it well. Keep up your good work.

Can't agree more! That's how my mom felt throughout the years, after my dad has passed away. Even tho she may feel lonely sometimes, yet the bond between me and my mom has been growing stronger and closer!

Become solo mum for a few days will be great without the big man in the house. I also do this when my man go for business. I enjoying spending my time with my best friends and shopping and occupied the whole room.

ACtually some people enjoy that personal time and some feel overburden or lonely.

During that period you can have your personal time and also concentrate on your kids.

Leona Lim said...

wow you are a supermum to be able to handle 3 kids all on your own, but you're also very positive minded to look at it from the bright side.

From small I learned to be independent.I prefer to do things on my own because I don't quite like of asking help from others unless I really need that badly. As my kids grow bigger, I can let go things slightly more by asking my parents help to look after them when I need it.

I do enjoy some ME time because it helps me to recover and release the negative energy accumulating from days. Haha

Would your husband be sad to read this post?

Rose said...

Wahaha. He is too busy to read my blog. But I know he is relieved in a way that I got my own space once a while. I need a break sometimes but children is my priority and I never able to take a break away from them.

Absence does make the hearts grow fonder and each spouse certainly need a time off after being together for so long.
It will ignite the fire when they meet again.
