Lunch at Little Hainan

Located in Bormill Estate, Little Hainan is a famous place for Hainanese flavour such as kaya toast, chicken rice and lou bak rice (braised meat). The corner restaurant which is just opposite the under construction new shopping mall (AEON) was packed on one Sunday when we were there.

After our church service, we decided to have lunch at Little Hainan. But oh boy, the place was full to the brim!

We had to wait for our turn and it took us about 10 minutes later to get a table. A waiter took our order while we waited for a table.

So, while we were standing and waiting for vacant table, I took photos of the restaurant. It has been years since the last time I were here and I couldn't remember that it looked like this before.

Tastefully decorated with antiques, and umbrellas and bird cages hanging from the ceiling, this place gave you that old Chinese coffee shop feeling.

They do serve breakfast and lunch. Amidst the lunch crowd, we actually enjoyed our lunch. The staff was friendly and helpful.

This glass of cincau c (RM3.50) was for me. Glass jelly with sweetened milk was refreshing but I did felt full after finished up my food and this drink.

Soon few bowls of salted mustard soup and saucers of chilli were served on our table. Ths chilli was good. Not overly spicy buy good enough.

The boys shared this plate of Hainanese chicken rice. 3 small balls of fragrant chicken rice flanked by tender and moist breast meat (RM7.50).

Hubby had this lou ro fan (braised pork belly rice) for RM9.50. The pork belly was well seasoned and tender. I actually liked this more than what I had that afternoon.

And I had this curry chicken rice (RM12). It was not bad but slightly sweet and spicy.

I were surprised that I were served with a bowl full of curry. Did not expect my curry to be served seperately but I wouldn't complained about it.

After our lunch, we went home for a short rest before we went out to pick Jan home from her Girl's Brigade camp.

  2. Sorry.. correction... two different types of chicken and braised pork... Your curry chicken looks a bit oily, something like with what I had this morning for breakfast, curry noodles but a bit on the oily side.

  3. I quite like it when dishes (like your curry) are served separately. I like to have options.
