Spy with my eye

When we were on road trips, we used to play "I spy with my little eye" with the kids. It kept the kids happy and occupied.

Kind of missing the long road trip but don't think we would be doing it anytime soon. Maybe when the kids grown bigger, and we can realise our dream of road trip around Sarawak!

I went for my run with hubby over the long Hari Raya holiday.

And as usual, I love looking at the bushes around me. Good for the eyes, they said. And same time, I could spy on something unusual too.

Can you spot the brown spiral fern among the green ferns and grass?? When I were small, I used to take that kind of fern.  My mum loved this fern so much but you could only find and pick it from the dense jungle.  Remember that she would pick whenever we went on countryside road trip and cook the fern with dried prawns and chillies.  The ferns tasted soft and slimy.  Totally not the texture of midin or paku. But it has been ages since I had it.  No one sell it in the market.  Don't think many people know this edible brown fern.

Bunch of pitcher plants. They were so cute.  I always stop by to have a look at them when I walk by.

It is back to school, so I would not be having my morning walk as much as I want to. And I would be flying in a couple of days. Busy and exciting week it is going to be.

Have a great week, guys!

  1. Many people plant their own pitcher plants. They do sell rice cooked in them but I am not really in favour of that as it seems those plants are becoming extinct.

  2. Wish I could run again.. but no stamina and leg not strong as before. Can only walk briskly. Good to exercise walking or running... I have to do that more often instead of being glued to the chair most of the time here. :)

  4. I like to eat soft and slimy food so the fern must be very tasty.

  5. I never had that brown spiral fern before. Another type of leafty slimy paku, that I have it all the time.
